Intake Air Thermosensor

I just pulled the codes from my fd and I got one long flash and one short flash. Apparently it is a problem with the intake air thermosensor. Where exactly is this located and how expensive/difficult is it to replace?

Its under the UIM, costs about $60 from malloy. Its not that hard to change. Basically you need to remove the IC piping, elbow, throttle body, then pull off the UIM. Its right there under the uim, remove the electrical connector, then unscrew with an open end wrench.

Could just be disconnected.

I think you can just remove the UIM and TB together. IIRC for another $8 you might consider getting a new UIM to LIM gasket, just in case.

I had this problem too. And it seemed to be intermittent, so I put a volt-ohmmeter at the corresponding ecu pin and measured it over a period of days. Turned out to be a wiring problem. I could move the wire or connector and the problem would go away. I replaced part of the harness wiring & IAT connector (from a salvage harness I bought on this forum).

Based on my experience, I would suggest you check the wiring and secure it before you change the IAT. You can get your hand onto the connector with some patience. I used a small mirror to check it out first.

And no, you should not remove or bypass it; the car will run, but not well--and the mileage will be poor since it normally goes rich when removed. The ECU uses this as a factor in the calculation of air density (to determine the amount of fuel to inject.)

Good luck.
