It all depends on your area, if you are going to be covered on your own policy or with your family, and other factors.

Just call your insurance company, they will give you a quote of "exactly" how much it's going to cost you.

GsrSol 01-01-02 10:59 PM

Just get some online quotes. If your about to turn 16 I hope like hell it will be on your parents policy. If you have to get your own policy, I feel sorry for you. If this will be your first car, I highly recomend you don't get it.

Ill probably be in your same position pretty soon and the way im gunna work with it is that im gunna have the car go under my parents name and have on of their (less expensive) cars go under my name so that things work out.

Well Im new to the forum, and this is my first post, but I think I can help ya out. Get about 400-500 bucks together, go buy a geo metro or a crx or something real shotty, and declaire it your primary vehicle...then put your Rx7 as a "leisure" vehicle...my buddy did this when he got his supra...his insurance is only 1,800 a year on the supra and he is 19. Since he said the Supra is leisure insurance assumed its only driven on weekends...he pays like 2,500 a year total for both cars..which is actually less then having just the supra as a daily driver.

kelrx7r1 01-02-02 03:35 PM

phase 1 that sounds good
but that doesnt work in my area or others mfor that matter
i have a 90 integra as a daily beater and my fd for pleasure.
and i still pay a arm & leg.
dirtbike try colonial penn.insurance i had them, on my 1st rx7
and was mad cheap but when i found out i was in nj they cut me.
p.s they are from ure same state

dirtbike64 01-04-02 05:55 PM

but can i get sum numberz on wut it will be around? and will that geo thing work in MASSachusetts?

I'm quite certain your insurance will be between $3,000 and $4000 a year. This is because insurance companies know that males under the age of 21 have a 100% accident rate:rolleyes:. 'Bet you didn't know that. Now, the insurance company is going to assume you will follow the curve (and worse), and will charge well over what it thinks it will lose paying for expensive parts on an older foreign sports car. I'm 20 and my father got me my '93 FD and put it in his name and on his policy (which is a form of fraud BTW, but those law making/ bending insurance companies more than deserve it IMHO:ak47: ). He pays $1,300 a year to insure it as a recreational vehicle. Now don't lose heart! Working hard to pay for this money pit will keep you from driving it (unless you use it for pizza delivery or something... hey, you could boast a 30 seconds or less gaurantee with that car), and inevitably wrecking it. I haven't even been pulled over any of the four years I've been driving, and I don't even have a radar detector! But the benefit of this will not pay off until I am about 25; that is when these companies consider me out of the curve:allcho:. Just be resposible with your FD, that can't be stressed enough. Know your car's strengths and weaknesses, and know that other cars on the road might not be able to perform as well (e.g. don't slam your brakes in front of a semi!). Remember, sportscars kill their drivers very easily. They are designed this way, because if you kill a sportscar like an RX-7 you deserve the same fate:shot2:. Taking driver's ed. will also take a (very small) bite out of your insurance. If you ask me, it's only worth it if you expect to gain useful knowledge from the class. It certainly isn't a long term solution seeing that it will only affect your bill for about a year. The last thing I can think of is your grades!!! Many insurance companies offer a good student discount. You must carry at least a 'B' (3.0) average to be elligable. Statistically, good students also tend not to get in wrecks or particapate in road rage shananagans. This can be as much as 10%!!!!! I know all this seems daunting, but don't be discouraged. Remember, resposibility is KEY! You figure out a way, even if it is the el cheapo way like me:D.

Here's lookin' at you, kid.

I see that you are in Mass, as such the insurance laws are against you in all possible aspects. I currently have a 2000 Passat as my primary car and will be adding the RX7(when I buy it soon) to that insurance policy as a 2nd car. I get that discount, but there is no such thing as a leisure car here..and furthermore you've gotta keep the insurance for the entire year..the only way to get away from that is to return the plates for the winter and then get them back in spring..a major PITA!

I'm 24 and I was quoted roughly $900 a year for a 93. This is very reasonable for me..but you might not fall into the same category..with all the crazy insurance rules and regulations..especially in MASS, I would definetly suggest ringing up to your current insurance company and ask them for estimates..they probably won't be able to give you good numbers without a VIN..but just as them to ballpark..

Well...

Got my FD at 18, $276 a month with one ticket and one claim on my own policy. Got married at 21, now it's $86 a month for extended coverage for a value of $50,000. Just get married. :p

Getting married is how my car's previous owner lost his to me. His wife made him sell it. Choose wisely.

It all depends on the area, and other factors. At 19 when I bought an FC my insurance was more than $276 per month with a clean record.

dirtbike64,

Just call around and get quotes from insurance companies. They don't charge you for them.

SaulV 01-05-02 03:59 PM

I realy dont know how it works. I just got my FD in OCtober and my Insurance was about $290 a month but I also own another MAZDA MX-6. [I JUST LOVE MAZDAS] :D .
I got into an accident in December, a hit and run. the insurance paid about $4000 in damages but listen to this. My Renewal statement came out at $251 a month for the RX7 and the MX6. Why did it go lower?
i think my insurance is pretty good considering im 21 and my record is not the cleanest. By the way the 25 Curve has raised for some states. Now its 29.

SaulV 01-05-02 04:10 PM

Hey congratulations for your marriage. by the way I just got married in June too. and im 21.
I went to Progressive.com and fill out all the information and they actually told me who was the cheapest. Out of all the companies they told me that AllState would be the cheapest for me. I went to an office in person and it was true. When i started I payed $290. for an MX-6 and a RX-7. 21 Male and Married. now it has gone down to $251. Check em out.
My personal advise is if this is your first car. PLEASE PLEASE do not get it. Driving a regualr car is not like driving a rear wheel drive and driving a regular car it certainly isnt like driving a 250 HP turbocharged car. You will kill yourself in the rain or snow if you dont have the practice. is not about braking is about downshifting and know how to control the 5 speeds. And if you are thinking about getting an Automatic. I would defenetly not recommend you this. There is no point on getting one of the hottest cars there is if you cant enjoy and take advantage of that engine.
