instrument cluster illumination gone

Hey all, my car just suddenly lost illumination to the cluster when turning the parking/headlights on, odometer is showing, all warning lights are on, but just does illuminate when I flick to the parking lights/headlights. anyone know which fuse I need to be looking at next to my leg? Im missing the fuse cover so dont know which is which :( also could it be a problem with the relay ? if so which relay should I be looking at ?

thanks

It maybe the bulbs inside the cluster is bad. Was the cluster pretty dim before this happened?

Here's a mod that people been doing to convert the lights back to normal when new or even better =]

Right I should have explained further,

A/C light is not dimming either when Im flicking to parking lights, hence why I think its a fuse or relay issue.

thanks

According to this diagram, the TNS relay is what controls the power to the AC panel and instrument cluster lighting. Give that a try.

Ignition switch on the steering column

Might be a dumb answer but you didn't turn the dim all the way down on the a/c panel by accident right?

?? Dunno what you're trying to say, what about the ignition switch on the steering column ?

most likely the dimmer switch.. mine blew out and all my cluster and dash lighting went out..

figured this out, relay is rusting away lol, the contact was built up with rust, I scratched it a bit with a small screw driver and now its working again,

Previous owner threw away the relay box and electrical taped the hell out of it, what would be the best way to make this water proof ? I have a Vmount BTW

So the TNS is the culprit huh? If I were you, I will try to find a used relay box here on the forum for cheap and relocate everything rather than having it hanging and electrical taping it.

An additional thing to check..

I wanted to add to this thread given the age and type of use these cars get.

I recently updated a thread stating I fixed my issue, but all I did is put additional load on my Black w/ blue stripe wire coming from terminal 1E. I think it tried to send too much grounding load through the dimmer switch and burned my first one up and quite possibly another one.

I checked the resistance on terminal C1-01 1E : .0020 kohms.

I didn't realize that 2 ohms was a very high ground until I googled it. I am crafting a new ground wire that has a shorter run to the driver side with a 12 gauge wire. I will update the thread if it fixes it.
