Installing Transmition Problems.

Just dropped the motor in yesterday and started boltiing up the tranny... Its was a real bitch to get it all alligned but we finally got it and bolted the tranny up. Now, when i removerd the engine I unbolted the cutch from the flywheel through the inspection whole. Now im trying to bolt it back on and it just wont go... not only can i not get the clutch any closer to the flywheel to be able to screw a bolt in but i cant even get the flywheel to move much to line up the bolt holes...?!

What the hell did i do wrong? I read all about the Snap type tranny and how it works in the manual but I still dont get it. Im probably ganna be removing the tranny tonight and see whats going on.... any suggestions?

um.. your supposed to bolt the pressureplate to the flywheel before the transmission goes in... So the bad news is remove it and install the clutch b4.. How the hell did you expect to torque it down ?

And... make sure to greese the shaft of the tranny!

Yep, you have to install the clutch first. Make sure to use a clutch alignment tool to center the clutch with the pressure plate.

When you install the tranny, the throwout bearing will clip itself onto the pressure plate. Installing it is "normal", removing it is what's different.

I don't understand. You said you dropped the engine in and bolted up the tranny. Then you removed engine again? Why?

You can bolt the engine to the tranny with the clutch assembly in the tranny. In fact, it is much easier to install because things line up more easily. You don't have to use a clutch alignment tool. The part that is more time consuming is bolting the pressure plate to the flywheel thru that inspection hole.

Dont try to move the flywheel to line up the bolt holes. Move the pressure plate. If it won't move, something is wrong. It should move easily when not bolted to the flywheel. If you pull it apart, make sure the circular clip is properly attached to hold the clutch assembly in place.

Unless he has the tranny in gear and the emergency brake on, or possibly the rear tires on the ground.

Make sure the tranny is in neutral.

Garfinkle puts the trans on then the pp as you have , he said to rotate the pp untill the dowell pins line up then start a bolt but do not tighten it down yet . rotate the clutch fly wheel to the next bolt and start it , ect, ect, . If you can not start the first bolt or two get a longer bolt then swap it out with the correct one later . He has never had to use a longer bolt but he has had to cuss the clutch on nore than one car, this works .

Thats the proceedure that i was going to attempt to do, but i cannot move the pp at all, when it does move it moves just a little and i have to use a huge flat head any pry at it until it starts to budge... When Grafinkle moves the pp how easily does it move? Is there somthing i could have done wrong to be having this diffficulty?
