Installing a CAI system...
 

Ok i've looked high and low for this and I cant seem to find a step by step process on how to install a CAI for the twins on our cars. I've been told that it is very simple and it looks very simple in itself but does anyone know where I can find a write on the install??? Thank again guys. :icon_tup: :icon_tup:

Are you making a CAI or are you installing one which you purchased?

I need to retract my previous statement... What I am interested in doing is applying Air Filters to the current twin system to remove the stock airbox. Does anyone have a write-up on how to do so. If you have visuals that'd be awesome too.

All you need to do is to remove the stock airbox, buy some K&N filters (IG RB-0720 or any filter with 2.5" pipe opening) to put on the ends of the turbo inlet hoses. You can vent the ABV and CRV open (the CRV will be obnoxious so I would get a longer hose and run it down to the ground), add a lawn mower filter to the air pump inlet, put a cap on the ACV outlet with a few small holes in it to suppress the noise.

If you want to get fancy, you can order a hard pipe kit from eBay to replace the stock accordion style hoses.

^just to be clear - the above would not equate to a Cold Air Intake.

The factory air box does a very good job of drawing cooler air from an external source vs your typical open intake as described.

...Or....Couldnt I just fab a Y pipe that drops to the front end under the car and cone it???

In all honesty I was just looking to get rid of the airbox... That being said back to my original question...does anyone have any visual write-ups on replacing the stock airbox with cone filters?

The only "GOOD" reason to get rid of the stock airbox, is to accommodate an intercooler that won't fit with the stock airbox. Getting rid of it because you don't like its looks is foolish, and may result in a decrease in performance.

I bought the system for people without an airpump and made my own heat shield using the templates from damian on this site. Then I routed the BOV and CRV (converted to a 2nd BOV since I'm non-seq) out the bottom of the car with some universal hoses I found at a local auto store.

An open element setup like this isn't ideal, but it leaves plenty of room for a new IC and it's a heck of a lot easier to snatch these out then to pull the stock airbox every time I'm working on the car. . .which is a lot.
