Installation of a door handle?
 

I got a new exterior doorhandle for my drivers side. How do I go about transfering the lock cylinder thing from my old handle to my new one.

Have you pulled the old one off yet? Once you get the handle off the car, it should be pretty obvious how to transfer the key cylinder. If I remember right, its only held on by a spring clip, and there's a wire connection for the alarm. Its very straight forward, and not hard at all.

Ya, I think there is just 1 "C" clip holding it in, can't remember but it shoud be obvious.

I gtot he handle off and I got the got the clip out, but do I ahve to disassemble the handle to transfer they cylinder? I dont' see a way to slip the cylinder under all that stuff.

If i remember correctly, when i took that clip off...you just had to rotate the cylinder slighlty then it slid right out. THen to put it back in you just push it in and rotate it a little. Try the search, you should be able to pull up all the threads i posted when i did mine. I got a lot of useful information on them that would probably help you out. Gooduck.

I can get the cylinder out fo the handle, but I mean with all the wiring thats connected tot he cylinder. The wiring runs underneath a bar thing that part of the handle, it doesn't look like I'd be able to get the cylinder under that bar thing to get it completely off of the handle. Am I making sense?

I know I ended up taking most of the handle apart when I switched mine over, so you might just have to remove the screws and take the whole handle apart. I don't remember the details very well, but I know that there wasn't anything special that I had to do.

When I did mine I think it had 2 12mm bolts and 1 10mm bolt that I took off, and it took me like 20 minutes to swap them. Can you show us any pics of what you're having trouble with?

Did you buy the handle new or used?

I just found my old handle that I broke and since I bought mine new, it came with the wiring harness. I just uncliped the white plug and believe it slid right out. I do think you have to rotate it.

My handle is broken I thought that someone was trying to break into my car. Are the door handles just crap?

I think they're probably crap. When I bought my car, the driver's side didn't work, and then a month later, the passenger side broke. Luckily I was able to repair them pretty easily, and they've been fine for the past few months.

Grr, gotta love our door handles:) I think there is a tounge on the cylinder that you have to push in. I have my old one sitting in front of me w/ out the cylinder and it looks like there is either a clip or a tounge on the cylinder side that faces the curved part of the assembly.. It has been too long so I don't remember the details but I was not too complicated

ack!! I'm stupid. I didn't notice that the wiring that goes into the cylinder can disconnect FROM the cylinder, thats why I was having problems. dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb
