install time on cat back?
 

My RB cat back arrived today, and I just wanted to know how long it would take me to install. the plan is to back it up on ramps and get out the air hammer......

Air hammer? It's like 2 14mm bolts and 2 rubber hangers, 30 minutes tops.

45 min if the bolts give you problems and you don't have wd40...it's 3 rubber hangers and 2 bolts...=) you forgot about the rubber hanger in the middle

get this stuff called PB BLASTER. it is the best penetrant i have ever used. get a 6 pack of your favorite brew and itll be broken up before you get done with your beer. . . even if you funnel it!! haha. its really easy man.

Man, changing an exhaust should be a 20 minute job with a 5 minute smoke break:D

hey, jspecracer7, i noticed that you have your power fc tuned to turn your fans on at 86 C. does it work well?how far does it go above that? i was planning on putting water spray nozzles on my rad so i could run lower temps. i planned on running it through the highspeed relay, ya know, as a failsafe. but if all i gotta do is change my pfc settings then ill just do that.

Be careful using an Impact gun. I did this the other day and broke one of the studs. Now I am going to have to pay for it to get done any way because I dont have torches to get it hot enough. Those studs down there are brittle.

How do you deal with the hangers? My car already had a cat back, and I want to replace it, but the hangers seem to be too wide to let me take them off.

try some penetrant like the stuff i listed earlier. i was able to pull some crazy stuff off with that stuff. again its called, PB Blaster. check it out. its a must have in any garage. haha

took me 10 minutes to take off my old greddy and put on my hks.

my plan is to hit the bolts with penetrating oil, drop the engine oil and let it sit for 20 min & drain. then come back and finish the oil change and swap out my cat back.

I asked cause my Dad is being a bitch about this. my garage is pretty small and I lack air tools and a decent jack, and he is trying to tell me this is an all day job.

actually he is really cool about cars, and he lets my FD sleep in his garage over the winter, so I can't bitch too much. he just tends to over estimate things like this, and as I have only been involved in one cat-back swap, I really don't know how long the job should take.

just make sure you are very generous with that penetrant. spray it............ let is sit................spray it again, and begin. one man can do this easily. if you are wondering how to get it under your car, you can just get a piece of cardboard (i have an oil-drip pan), lay the flange side on it and slide it under the car in the position it is supposed to be installed in. oh yeah, another hint: the hanger mounts on the stock catback are 2piece on the muffler. there is a rubber mount, then an inner sleeve that goes inside the mount/covering the hanger. if you dont understand me you will when you get to it. if i were you i would spray these as well. they are a little hard to get out. there are three: 2 on the tail end and one on the pass. side of the muffler (ibelieve). i had to cut these when i put my hks c-back on. they just didnt want to go back in. i just cut one of the sides off so i could easily slide it back in. its all secure. doesnt move around too much at all. sorry this is so lengthy.

friend and i put my APEXi N1 on in 15 minutes... with some WD40... its sooo easy... and its not that big... plus the new exhaust u put on is SOOO much lighter!

YEP...with the datalogit stuff, I've got a stock replacement KOYO(it's only about 1 millimeter thicker) and my cooling is kick ass. Okinawa's VERY hot right now, and my water temp doesn't get over 95, even railing the piss out of the car. Even when I went to FMIC, I didn't see much of a temp increase. I can't wait until I get an all aluminum KOYO...that'll be GREAT!!!!!

rotorbrain - you need the datalogit to adjust the temps your fans kick on. Well, YOU don't need to have a datalogit, you just need to know somebody who will let you borrow theirs to update your settings. I set mine to 89 fan1 and 90 fan2. I've never seen it over 91 since.

**WARNING** Make sure you do a "READ ALL" and save your current map to the laptop harddrive before doing any "WRITE or UPDATE" functions with the Datalogit software. Had a friend get his datalogit, didn't read the instructions, did a "WRITE ALL" and blew away his T78 map that he had just paid XS $150 for. It was a sad day since XS charged him again to replace the map.

I'll second the use of PB Blaster. I love that stuff! Easily the best you could buy.

If you want to even better your odds, douse the bolts real good the night before with PB Plaster, let it REALLY soak in. Then hit them again 20 minutes before you try to remove them!
