Can anyone please tell me which injector cleaner I can add to my gas tank to clean the injectors the best so that I can go and buy some.Thanks for your help please respond.

those detergents don't really work. Atleast they've never worked on any of my cars. I wouldn't dare torture my FD with that crap.

Pull the injectors and send them to KG in South Jersey.

The proper way to clean them is posted above (i.e. pulling them and sent away for cleaning). However, it's not a bad idea to run one of the over the counter cleaners once a year. BG44K is a very popular. I typically run a bottle of injection cleaner each spring.

IMHO, the only thing that you can put in your tank that really helps injectors is Sta-Bil, which goes in before the car is stored for any length of time. This at least helps prevent deposits from forming.

If you suspect the injectors aren't working right, IMHO the ultrasonic cleaning *with* before/after testing is the only meaningful method.

I use Lucas fuel injector cleaner. Every time I use it on my wifes Explorer we get better performance and mileage. I use it at every oil change.

Chevron-Techron fuel system and injector cleaner. I buy it on sale and put a bottle in every few months, generally in spring and fall.
Don't think it's advertised for carbs, but it was most recently effective this summer in freeing a sticking float on antique car of mine.

I recently failed emissions with year old gasoline and a poorly warmed up FD. I put in a bottle of Gumout fuel injection cleaner and spent the week driving as hard and much as I could.....logging about 300 miles. It passed emissions with flying colors - not even close. It went from 4 times the legal limit of HC and CO to almost zero. The gas was new and the car was hot. It could have been any or all of those factors....but I do think the cleaner helped.

I've never used over the counter injector cleaners but I usually hear of people running the Chevron Techron stuff. Dont know how well it works but the best way to clean them is to send them out for ultrasonic cleaning.

I have heard of people using some of this "better" fuel cleaners as extra insurance and it makes the car run WORSE than it did before they put it.

Why is that?

Like for instance, my car runs fine, no smoke out the exhaust but i have never used any type of fuel cleaner in my car since the day i got it. My car is getting even older so maybe a bottle wont hurt. I dont want to put a bottle of this and have a crapstorm come my way.

Should i do it? Or follow the phrase, "if it aint broke, dont fix it"?

As some have stated the best way to correct a spray pattern or sticking injector issue is to send them in for cleaning and testing.

If you don't have the time to do that and you rely on the vehicle for transportation then I recommend BG44k.

When I was a Service Manager we used it and it worked extremely well for anywhere from restoring compression (in valved engines where large deposits had formed on the valves, causing them not to seat correctly.) to curing issues caused by fuel system contamination.

It is expensive being at around $26 a can and can only be found at dealerships and some garages.

The other alternative is Lucas fuel system treatment or the Gumont Regane as I have seen good results with both of those.

As lwnslw stated about the Lucas and getting better performance and mileage. I have had the same results when I take long trips with my Truck or when I tow with my Truck.

But as stated above if you suspect it is an injector issue and have don't have to rely on that vehicle then send them in for cleaning and testing.

I sent mine to KG as well. They have a really quick turnaround also.

Listen to me. I had a sticking injector. I didn't realize it was even a problem until I installed a midpipe. WOW....I had thick white smoke (NOT COOLANT), GASOLINE in the air when I cranked the car.

When I removed my turbo's to port the wastegate, GASOLINE poured onto the floor of my garage!!!!

I used Chevron INjector cleaner a number of times and it didn't do anything. Pulled injectors and shipped them to witch hunter, problem solved completely.
