Importing 93-95 to the States

Sorry if some of you took the subject wrong, but has anyone actually imported one from Japan? Are there any shops available that do it? I did a search but the only thing was 2 years old. Yes I understand it is difficult and costly, but I need to know exact figures. I am in Japan now and will be here for another 2 years. I have never talked to anyone personally who has done it. I saw a '93 with 120,000km+ (about 75,000 miles) for sale "fully registered" for $18,000. Would someone accually pay that much? Ridiculously interested.

The 92-02 FD RX-7 is available to import like any other car as long as it was yours in Japan & you are going to live in the USA.

Thats my understanding. Having said that. A guy on this forum called "3rotor" has a genuine JC Cosmo registered in Washington state.

Although he bought it already registered as a rhd vehicle, he may know the guy that crawled through the red tape to get it there.

if you want a 93-95 you are MUCH better off waiting till you get here and then buying it here...

the only reason to import one from japan would be to get a later model year/stlye and hopefully lower mileage.

around here you could get a 93 with that mileage for around 16,000 (assuming its close to stock)

there is tons of information on this if you use the search button.

Buy one that is already in the states. It will save you a lot of time, money, and hastle.

I've heard that US military stationed overseas can ship one car back home with them for free. Does anyone know details of this policy and if we can use this as a way to get a JDM through the system?

they can get it shipped but they have to pay all leagalization fees... if this were not the case, everyone coming back from Japan would be bringing a Skyline with them :D

Anyone can have one shipped. Call your local "Registered Importer" and they will tell you what needs to happen to legalize the vehicle once it gets here.

BTW, dont just have the vehicle shipped without getting everything ready first, the us customs agents can sieze the vehicle if you dont have it shipped by and RI. The RI will arrange the HS7 documentation and will perform the modifications to the car making it legal here in the US. They will also title the vehicle and get it assigned a US VIN.

ps..
It costs around 15k including the shipping. Not including the vehicle. It can take several months and its very easy to get screwed sending money over seas.

Me and a few others on this board looked in to this quite a bit, needless to say we all still drive us 7's. The cost and risk just werent worth having RHD.
