People PM me all the time, I write detailed answers and I usually don't get as much as a "thank you".

Don't bother PM'ing me anymore.

Oh yeah, mods don't move this thread, even though it isn't directly FD related most everyone PMs me about FDs, so this is the correct audience for the thread.

C'mon guys, be nice to Jeff. He's our saint and savior of FD's.

In others' defense though Jeff, I know I for one actually tell people to PM you, because you are a wealth of knowledge, and always willing to help. I'll try to cut back on that, hopefully others will too.

That sucks that you feel that your help is not appreciated, I have never Pm'd you with a question but I will say that I always make sure to express my gratitude to the people who take the time to answer my Pm's, I know the "guru's" must have answered the same questions soooooo many times, I think I would get annoyed with ungrateful people too.

Start charging $5 a question, that way you can be old and grumpy and have a little extra money in your pocket

People should ask these questions in public so that you don't have to tell everyone over and over again. Maybe you should start charging a consulting fee?

Act dumb until the correct time and then people leave you alone. People find out that I am a computer guy and they start with this line, "So I hear you're a computer guy." My answer, "What is a computer?" Deliever it dead pan style and the people just go away.

It is not that people aren't nice, they just don't say "thanks". I've learned what I know from people like Jim and Kevin and personal experience. I don't always say thanks but I'm batting over .750:).

If it is a regular thread the poster isn't required to give a thank you IMHO. PMs are different.

Oh and if you happen to have wrecked your FD or are thinking about buying one do a little research on your own. Figure out how much parts cost, call a wrecking yard, the dealer, etc. If you can't do that much research on your own your doomed. Oh and last thing, it isn't cheap, you can't buy a $2K car and have a nice FD for $5-6k, it ain't gonna happen...

I can't tell you how many telephone calls I get from people wanting to do Auto-> Manual Conversions... lol thats what i get for putting my number on the internet!

I've felt your pain. I used to get multiple PMs daily asking about wheel offset questions for FD max width fitments. I used to happily answer them, but to your point, it's like these noobs suck you dry of the info without so much as a "thank you". I wasn't feeling any "love".

I got tired of handing out free advice, so I posted in the suspension forum, that I was charging a $250 consulting fee. Not surprisingly, my PM traffic has gone WAY DOWN. No I have not picked up any clients, but I don't get bugged with these wheel questions anymore LOL :)

Unfortunately dclin, rynberg, maxcooper, and DamonB's PMs have probably gone up, since the noobs probably started PM'ing those guys for advice.

My humble opinion is if we FD veterans disregard these nagging PMs, the noobs would eventually use the search function--and in the process--learn something about the FD.

That's how we "crusty old" FD veterans learned--we scoured the search feature and read lots of threads.

Noobs these days want info NOW, without putting in the time to do the research properly. Oh sure they claim they've done a search. The problem is, they didn't search effectively by using the proper search keywords. This forum has been around a LONG TIME. It's highly unlikely that a noob problem is a new one, that has not been covered by an old thread.

I've not PM'd you, TJ, except for our SSR wheel transaction, but thanks for providing your FD experience to the noobs.

I'd like to give a BIG thanks to TurboJeff and SleepR1! They are both fountains of knowledge and always been helpful. The forum is a better place because of them. Thanks for all your research, hard work and answers all the time guys. We appreciate it :cool:

Most of the time doing the right thing is it's own reward. I just wish my new shitty job would afford me more time to spend on the forum and help people who were exactly where I was about two years ago. In fact, I only slept two non-contiguous hours last night, and technically I'm supposed to be working right now. I'm sure you heavy hitters have been so for so long that you've forgotten what it's like to be a newbie. I just want to be like the people who were there for me when I was totally clueless.

But this does bring about a very valid point. If someone spends the time to help you, in any way, thank them. This is not hard, people...these guys don't HAVE to help you at all. Nobody on this forum is OBLIGATED to or gets PAID to help you with your problems, but they do anyway - because they are nice! So be nice BACK and say "thank you" or give them praise, or go to the GG/BG section and write a thread saying that they are good people...do SOMETHING...or they'll just stop helping you, and you'll have to actually PAY someone to diagnose your problems or give you advice.

I'm probably one of those guys who Jeff is talking about. I live fairly closely, and have met and talked with him several times. All I can say is that I hope you don't cut off the fountain of knowledge to us. If you do, I completely understand. I would like to thank you for all the time in the past you've spent hunting for solutions on my bucket of bolts. Thanks again Jeff. CJ

You expect newbie's who can't spell, use grammar, or even sometimes find the Caps Lock key to say "Thanks for you help"? lol I think any DECENT person would say Thank You after someone helps you out but as witnessed by newbie threads, some of the newbie's are just plain buttheads...

As for turbojeff.. I've never pm'd you a question I don't think but do appreciate your presence, skills, and what you bring to the table. As for you getting pm's all the time, my only advice is just to delete them unless you know the person. If I get a pm from someone asking a question that they can find the answer to somewhere else or perhaps learn on their own I hit the old delete button.. :D I personally see nothing wrong with this.
