I'm new please don't hurt me
 

Hi everyone.

First of all, awesome forum...I was browsing around before I registered trying to answer my own questions myself. Currently I drive a 01 Jetta Wolfsburg..but RWD is calling my name.
Nothing against VW, infact I would own a TDI model...but enough of that.

I feel the need to drift...the need of 2 doors...the need for speed and that for me...is a 3rd Gen RX7 TT.
I am currently looking for one as I write this...and hope to aquire one before the end of the year. I do know how to search, and I will be doing so..but if you guys and girls? can help me with a few things I'd appreciate it.
I read on another forum that u can buy a NEW 13b engine for the 3rd gen rx7s for around $2k. So I am figuring that into my budget. I have found a few RX7s for sale and although none are close enough for me to look at yet, I am curious what do I need to look for? and more important where to look for it?

I am new to the rotary world but I have seen diagrams of how they work and while i may not know everything yet...i know they don't have cams :D .

If you want to drift...GET A SECOND GEN. TII. The FD can be drifted...but I hope you like the feeling of drifting on water.:(

Well for starters, you probably won't get a *NEW* engine. What people normally get are remanufactured engines for around $2200 which does not include a core charge (you get the reman engine and send back your broken one). Or people just have theirs rebuilt.

Usually people have them rebuilt so they can have some porting done on the engine. You can purchase a reman engine and have porting done to it, but of course they'll need to dissasemble the engine to port it.

How many of you drive your RX7 daily? I'm sure a few have it just for a project car...but how many use it to get to and from work...etc.

I daily drive mine 3-4 times a week in the summer and 1-3 spring and fall. but its no good in the winter

When I'm not on my motorcylce I'm in the FD. I won't drive it in the winter. There's no way. It gets squirley in the rain. Tom

Mine used to be a dialy driver when I first got it. However, I do not recommend using it for a daily driver. There are plenty of guys here that have their FD's for daily use though...

I guess my FD is more tempermental than others as it's spent more time off the road than on it. That's the reason it's not a dialy driver, I was forced to get another car. Now, it's just more of a convenience.

It was kind of a nusiance to go grocery and other shopping with the FD. It's nice to have some cheap beater to drive around that gets good gas mileage and you can haul stuff around in...

One of the biggest plus to having a daily beater is not getting used to the FD. If you drive it every day, you tend to get used to the power. After a while it won't *seem* as fast. Jumping in a 90hp grocery getter and then jumping back in the FD makes you remember why you bought it. ;)

I used mine as a daily driver for 13 months, and put 15K on it. It is a bit squirelly in the rain, and I did have to drive it during an ice storm (not recommended!!), but it can be used as a daily driver.

I agree with Mahjik, now that I don't drive it everyday, I really appreciate the RX-7 and it's power, handling, and sheer driving enjoyment!
