I'm baffled

When I blimp the throttle it wants to stall and then comes back online. Also when I start out in 1st gear it hesitates and then picks up. It's like it takes a full sec. for the throttle to come on before the car starts rolling. I was thinking its the leading coil that is going bad. I didnt test it yet but going to. Should I get a crane HI-6 and does anyone know the part #.?

Mods are 500R, Apexi PFC, 4" DP stright through. 550/1600's, walbro, HKS twin, new rebuild motor street ported by pettit. Meth. injection boost juice. 4 gal. in the hatch. Running 8lb's boost now.

I went to the dealer after the rebuild and they said the compression was low I was thinking it could be cause of the street port. I plan to run 25psi. on high boost after I get this fugured out. Should I get a TII 88 ignition? I hear those are the ones to get.

anyone?

rx7rcer09 11-17-09 08:21 AM

with that much boost your going to need at least 850 primaries and i would go with a MSD ignition the TII i dont think would be enough.. but i have no experience with that system.

Yes I have them but just not in.

I don't necessarily think that this is ignition-related. It sounds like a lean condition (similar to what used to happen with a bad accererator pump on a carburetor) So:

1. Did you check the TPS adjustment?

2. Are the throttle plates adjusted correctly?

3. Do you have any vacuum leaks? What is the idle vacuum?

Porting won't effect compression, at least not enough to be that noticeable. This is why you can't tell what kind of porting an engine has just from looking at a compression test. Porting will effect the idle vacuum reading.

If you truly have low compression, then you have a problem.

go to the shop that built the motor to get a compression check, not the stealership see what numbers you get on all the faces, and if its a fresh build your shop should have some kind of warranty to fix this.

Dave, I havent checked the TPS, or the plates. The idle vac. is around 15-13. rx7rcer; the dealership did a very good job with the testing. (I think so) the showed me exact detials of each rotor. And they seemed like they knew what they were talking about. I was watching them the whole time.
Mahjik thanks for that info. I had no idea about that.

Sounds like tuning or TPS as DaveW mentioned

Vacuum sounds reasonable for a street port. W/O porting 16 is reasonable. Definitely check the TPS.

What were the compression #'s? Do you have the results, RPM at which they were done, etc.? Were they similar on all faces?

Dave

Dont remember the #'s. I'm pretty sure they werent in psi. it was meteric. And I converted it . It was like in the 80's. I have to find that sheet.
