I'm ashamed and happy at the same time
I'm ashamed to say what I did, but it got me back on the road, so I'm smiling.
My MOP was fouled up and it was putting my car into limp mode. I'm planning on yanking the thing and going with pre-mix anyways once I get a little cash saved up and am ready to put a PFC on it. So I got a hold of a used MOP and I was going to swap it out. I wanted to make sure the car was running right before going ahead with mods like the PFC and other stuff, but once I saw what a PITA it was going to be to get down the that little thing, I came up with a new plan. I left the MOP right where it was at, and plugged in the new one to see if it would run. Sure enough, I've got no more problems with limp mode. I put a little pre-mix in the tank, and for the moment, I'm just going to leave the second MOP wrapped in a rag and carefully tucked in beside my intake elbow. I know it's pretty ghetto, but at least it gets me back on the road for the moment. LOL Am I crazy or what? |
I assume you mean OMP.
Um, so let me get this straight. You've got a broken OMP attached to your engine, but tucked in a rag (which will probably get oily and dry soon) and set up on top of the block. While at the same time you've got a working OMP in there being fed by a small tank of pre-mix. Why not just delete the OMP all together and start pre-mixing? |

You are correct, the proper term given by Mazda is MOP.
But, you are still a lazy person! Change that damn thing out. I used to be a mechanical tard and changed mine without even loosening my turbos, on my back and under jack stands. Use the oil pump & pre-mix a little FTW! |
Guys what he did works just fine and got him back on the road until he deletes the MOP. No harm no foul. He's trunning premix so his engine is going to be fine and that's really all what matters is it not?

I know im grave digging but I didnt want to start a new thread.
So if you do a OMP delete what do you do with the sensor connection? Isnt it going to throw it in Limp mode if its just dissconnected? Can you just dissconnect it and start running premix? |

Funny thing about fd owners is that they REALLY follow the saying "don't fix it if ain't broke". We are the most last second car owners ever. We will ghetto rig and go around everything just to get the Damn car on the road. We are just that lazy and anxious/excited to finally have our rx7 on the road lol. |
Im trying to trouble shoot some problems to get my car out of Limp mode. Im about to throw in the towel and put this in a storage unit and forget about it till im 50

Sounds to me like he has an omp plugged into the connector so the ecu senses it. The ecu doesn't actually spin the pump. It only varies the output by changing the voltage to the stepper motor. So if you have a bad stepper motor in the pump, plugging a good one in will trick the computer. You don't even have to have oil lines bolted to it. The bad omp will still move oil as it is driven by a drive gear off the eshaft, but it will not increase ol flow in relation to load. That being said, its a super ghetto bandaid for the problem. Changing the pump isn't that hard. And yes a bad omp will put the car into limp mode with the stock ecu. Deleting the omp is stupid as well. If you ever forget to premix you will trash the motor very quickly. Fix the problem.

There are three separate codes associated with "The OMP"....the OMP pump, OMP stepper-motor and OMP sensor. Despite that, AFAIK it's an assembly. I don't think MAZDA even sold the separate components or intended them to be replaced separately. So when you remove "the OMP" you remove all three....along with the lines. FWIW, although I have a PFC and pre-mix, I kept the functioning OMP too. I think they compliment each other. |

Thanks for the help guys

Resistor won't work. The ECU tells the OMP to move, and it sends back a signal confirming the movement. It would be really tricky to fake that.
Good used OMP's are CHEAP and they're not terribly hard to replace. Just do it right, people! Your car isn't some shitty Honda Civic, it DESERVES proper care and maintenance. And it's not like you have to spend 3 days doing this, you can probably knock it out in 1-2 hours TOPS if you're slow. Dale |
