Im almost sure my fuel system is the cause of my problems

Well, I've been having a lot of trouble, especially over 4krpms. Car doesnt want to make more than 7psi of boost (although I think this is related to the wastegate being stuck). Has a lot of problems past 4k rpms. My idle gets rough sometimes. Wont just drop to 900, it slowely drops. Get surges at low rpms sometimes. Smokes occasionaly. Black smoke when I romp it.

I ordered a new fuel filter, but I dont know if thats going to be the only cause. I have a new walbro thats still uninstalled and I'm ordering 1600 secondaries, new fuel rail, fpr, lines, etc.

Would I need to retune the PFC after I installed the fuel pump? I know I would after all the other goodies.

As long as the fuel pump doesn't overrun your FPR, then no you shouldn't need to retune the PFC just for the fuel pump.

What do you mean by overrun my fpr? Its a walbro 255lph

XSTransAm 09-13-04 03:04 PM

if it dosent change your fuel pressure.

As XSTransAm mentioned, your fuel pressure. The FPR is there to keep the pressure regulated (hence the name). If the fuel pump is too strong, it can overrun it causing a higher pressure than normal which you would need to adjust your programming for (or get a stronger FPR like the SX unit which should come with your 1600cc kit if you are getting it from the RX7Store.net).

how bout you list your mods. the 7psi is likely unrelated to any fuel problems you perceive you have.

lots of things can cause rough idle - most of them unrelated to the fuel system.

same with the black smoke.

you might want to do some more research b4 you blow all that cash 'fixing' something that ain't broke.

I have. There's like 50 threads on here about my problem, what I've checked, and what I've replaced to try and fix it. Its the fuel system.

Houdini 09-13-04 05:32 PM

sounds like a vacuum leak no? Have you checked your lines?

Yeah, I've seen them and your problems all revolve around not being able to make enough boost. You are only able to build 5psi of boost - how does that point to a fuel problem? Your injectors aren't clicking - I've never heard an injector click even when it was stuck open. Solenoids click though.

If it was fuel related, you'd still be able to make 10+ psi of boost. You just wouldn't have fuel for it and your engine would blow.

People keep telling otherwise you but you insist that its fuel related regardless of what some of the most experienced guys tell you.

Fuck it, its your money. Buy a new fuel system. Or take it to someone who knows what they are talking about like Gotham and get your money's worth...

I might be wrong, but it sounds like part of your problem is that your running too rich that's why your getting the black smoke...correct me if I am wrong

My wastegate is stuck open. Thats my boost problem. But that doesnt explain all the problems I've been having off boost. How both happened at once, I have no idea.

Gamezilla 09-13-04 10:34 PM

Off boost my car has hesistation and surges all through the rpms. At 4k I hit a big snag almost like fuel cut, but it'll keep going if I give it a little more gas. Periodic bouncy idle. RPMs take a while to settle down and very rarely do I get a perfect 900rpm idle like I should. Changes pretty much every time I start the car. I thought it might be the TPS sensor (which Im checking tomorrow anyways) but I have way to many other issues that arent related (like how difficult it is to go over 4krpms). Its not the ignition. Its not any vacuum leaks. Its not a boost leak. Not my MAP sensor. Not any plugs missing. Injectors are getting power and the commander reads a perfect signal to them.
