Does anyone have any information on the Sequential Shifter for the FD?

similar devices have been on here before and the only thing i ever saw people say was... "why the hell would you want that, look at how far it sticks out!"

i think it looks pretty neat though, plus it gets it right where you want it, close to the steering wheel where you can very easilly reach it... the issue others will bring up is that its not really a "sequential" if the clutch still has to be done manually... well, the shifter part is and i say heck yeah that's neat... i'm old fashioned though, and i really enjoy the "H" type shifts. good luck though, try running a search in this forum... you should get a few hits.

You could just try learning to shift, instead.

XSTransAm 04-19-04 09:05 PM

i have a shifter like that on my 1978 trans am... its the only way to make an auto fun :(

EVS.TurboTuner 04-19-04 09:22 PM

That thing is huge! Will look out of place for reelz! If it looked anything or functioned like a BMW M3 SMG tranny I would be interested.

pugg57 04-19-04 09:32 PM

for reelz? is that more than normal?

dont' have a birthday on your profile but i'll guess 1987 am i right?

:D just giving ya a hard time man, i just don't get the whole ebonics thing with the z and the schizzles and such

skunks 04-19-04 10:29 PM

if you can revmatch, you dont need to clutch :)

 Sigh...nope, all that "sequential shifter" does is transform your shifter from a traditional "H" style pattern to single front/back movement. The problem is that your FD transmission is still a traditional syncromesh gearbox, so you still need to operate the clutch manually in order for the gearbox to accomplish the shift. All this shifter does IMO is make you a WRC wannabe.

pugg57 04-20-04 06:55 AM

see am3210! i told you exactly what they'd say!

it would be really cool if this type of shifter could be mated to a 5-speed automatic to make it an actual sequential.

teamstealth 04-20-04 07:10 AM

Again, an "actual sequential" is a dogmission designed to shift VERY quickly with electrohydraulic actuators built into the tranny and DESIGNED to shift very quickly. That shifter thingy will just tear up your synchros, and if you have to manually clutch, it isnt going to be that much faster anyway.

I believe JSpecRacer7 or one of our JP guys has this installed. Maybe he will chime in his opinion.

gcthree 04-20-04 08:40 AM

"No more missed gears under the intense heat of competition"....or some such Japanese drivel.

A real sequential trans has straight-cut gears with dog rings- like a motorcycle. I race a shifter kart, and it uses a Honda CR125/6 speed sequential. No clutching except for coming out of the pits. Just breath the gas pedal a bit, and bang home the next gear. Good stuff. However, you need a good memory, as there is no gear indicator, so you need to remember where you are in the box.

Shifter

Thanks for the info guys!

I don't know if I'd be chiming in if I had one...

cabaynes 04-20-04 12:23 PM

i talked to JSpecRacer7 about his.

He basically said that on the track it's awesome. You shift faster and with less worries than before, because you'll never miss shift or hit a gate.

On the street, he said it sucked. it's too much work because you have to hit every gear and can't skip down like a normal H pattern.

Pretty cool idea for a track only car IMO

FstFD3SPOWER 04-20-04 12:39 PM

shit is huge... pretty damn cool though.

gcthree 04-20-04 02:44 PM

If they did it for, say, $500, I'd be interested. But, for $1,300, I'll continue to shift through the pattern, and make believe I'm sequentially shifting. Where do they come up with these prices?? How many can you possibly sell at this price point? 10?

yeah really, sell that setup at $500 and people won't question it as much, they'll just buy it. That tends to happen when somethign is radically different and affordable.

Look at how well the Venom 400 control module sold. People bought it because Venom makes good nitrous kits. Well the control module does DICK.

Why wouldn't I chime in?:D

Just call me a WRC wannabe:)

In all seriousness, it wasn't the best on the street. The one and only reason I bought it was for fear of missing a gear and killing my tranny(I've done this once before). The Ikeya never mis-shifts. I never once worried about my 2nd to 3rd shift when I had it on....problem is it's a PITA with stop and go traffic.

FstFD3SPOWER 04-20-04 06:59 PM

I would love to see some videos or pictures of ur car jspec!!

RX-187 04-20-04 07:58 PM

:o: I do this all the time.

jspecracer7 04-22-04 06:40 PM

There are some OLD videos of my 7 running around Okinawa, mainly me yelling at old men and rapping to Dr. Dre...

A new video would consist of 7000 rpms launch from outside the car so everyone can see what a good suspension setup for drag should look like.

RX-187 04-22-04 08:41 PM

^Where can those be found?

FstFD3SPOWER 04-22-04 08:57 PM
