ignition upgrading
 

So I run a pfc on the stock ignition system and thought about upgrading with the twin rotary but stuck between that and the full IGN-1A high performance ignition system that is on sale for another couple of days.

Has anyone went with the hks and then wanted to upgrade or does it seem to handle what you throw at it?

The twinpower can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. Plus there isn't a reason to spend the extra money for the smart coils if you're going to stay with the PFC since it can only run the coils in wasted spark. But, If you're planning on upgrading ecus in the future then I'd buy the smart coils.

I ran the HKS Twin Power for years with good results. On my last build the HKS had trouble keeping the plugs going, but I was running upwards of 2oz/gal of premix so I think that was the main reason why.

I got rid of the Twin Power when I bought my Life Racing ECU and switched over to the IGN-1A's. I won't be able to offer a direct comparison between the stock coils + Twin Power, and IGN-1A's simply due to a large disparity in time, and the fact that I'm changing SOOOO much else at the same time (new ECU, new high-end harness, new fuel system, new turbo, etc., etc., etc.)

The Twin Power worked just fine for me when I was running Water Injection, 1oz/gal premix, and 480(ish)whp at 19-20psi about four years ago..

For some reason I thought I read somewhere the PFC did direct fire... Will guess that solves that alittle bit.

The PFC triggers the igniter, which fires the coils. The Twin Power connects between the igniter and coils, with a plug and play harness. We have customers with over 500rwhp running this setup, no issues. The stock coil setup is only 3 coils, so the PFC is designed for that.

Smart coils have built in igniters.
