Ignition cut over 5000rpm?

I have a 94 and running it with basic upgrades (DP,catback, Intakes, Power FC). I just bought the car a few months ago and just started driving it this week and I am having a problem with what seems to be ignition.

Below 5000 rpm, everything is fine, turbo seem to spool up nice, one after the other, but then at around 5000rpm the car seems like it gets ignition cut. If I am there at WOT it bucks and a bit of black smoke comes out the back (excess fuel I think), if I approach 5000 rpm slowly and carefully go past it with say 1/2 throttle, it will still stutter a bit, but not quite like the WOT attempts. I did the Vac lines too before this, so there could be something I did wrong assembling the car, but the turbos seem to spool up correctly.

I am going to change the plugs, check my grounds, and check the plug wires to see that they are on correctly. The only other thing that might be an issue is my battery relocation to the storage bin, but I grounded the original (-) side of the battery to the chassis and the new location as well.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I'm replacing those before the next time I drive it, but I also noticed that if the wires are not completely on the plug or coil, the same problem could occur.

It sounds like more than plugs. And it also sounds like you are a posterboy for why you should do one mod at a time...

so very true! your suppose to put one mod in, drive 500 miles and see if anything happens, and then install next mod

If you bought the car "a few months ago and just started driving it", but haven't thought about checking the PFC maps, you might want to do that, or take it to someone with experience with the PFC to run through it. You also might want to double-check your battery connections (and condition of the battery).

check grounds and check that the plug wires are going to the correct plugs. can't hurt to change the plugs either.

good luck.

Thanks guys.

The one mod at a time thing is true, but there was damage to the factory air box when I got it, the previous owner broke off the pipes that come off the air box in an attempt to remove it. Also the pre cat was shot and that needed to go, and it already had the cat-back. I figured I needed the Power FC with the extra two mods so that's how I wound up where I am. I'm sure it's just a plug/grounding/wire issue, I was just looking for some other suggestions, but thanks. If worse came to worse I would take out the power FC and see how it runs then.

I'll keep you posted

Update:

I found a broken plug wire end, I'll know next week if that was it.

Update. Plugs and wires did it. Tha car pulls strong! I think it was the wires though, because the plugs looked alright when I pulled them.
