If you had 10 grand......
Ok, i have a 94 FD with 88,000 miles on the orginal enigne and turbos. And i am aobut to get atleast 10 grand from a law suit. What should i do with it?? All i have done now is full 3 inch exhaust, and apexi intake.
Here is what i am thinkin.... *Re-built engine with a street port *Re-built turbos, or a twin turbo upgrade *new ECU, like AEM, apexi, etc. *6 speed tranny (its an auto right now, all i could find) *Front mount intercooler What do you guys think? am i making the right steps? or should i od sumthing diff? i need opnions. Thanx KB |
by full exhaust you mean dp/mp/cb ? then i would get a ecu for sure.
|
and yea, i would save the rest up...time is ticking....

tranny
6-speed tranny? from what?

My first opinion would be to give me the Money.
My second opinion is to put it down on a house or investment My 3rd choice..... GT35 with all the bolt ons, ecu and if enough left over paint the bitch. David |
do you have all the reliablity mods??
if not get those first. then i'd get the ecu and rebuild the engine. dont rebuild the turbos... get a new one |
I'd say by a cheap little beater if you don't have one already. I personally like dd'ing my FD, but hey if you got the money and you're gunna soup up the FD to max performance, why not get a beater.
Also, I havent done much studying on it, but is it worth converting from auto to manual? Maybe you should look into the price vs. price of selling your FD for a manual one. Just a thought. But, anyways, I say beater, and eng rebuild. |

I alreay have a street bike and a beater. but, i just wana know what i should do as far as modding my FD. I am 17, live at ohme, and my college wil lbe paid for, so i dont really need to invest it in to anything, other than my car. What should i do with it??

dude....ur sooo lucky man. Im fairly new here but like they said the reliability mods and what not. Dont go blowing it on body kits, wings or LED washer nozzles or nothin ;)
|
i agree with azndisgrace. First and foremost, get all of the reliability mods done. Then get ur new turbos and ported motor if possible.
Just my $.02 Zach |
what are the "reliablity mods?"
|
reliability mods are things like getting an aluminum AST tank, doing the fan speed mod, vaccum lines, etc. If you check out the FAQ or newbie sticky threads @ the top they contain more in-depth info about those mods and have some pretty good links to DIY sites.

Ya, well, if i went with all the reliablity mods, how much would i be lookin at?
What is a good ECU to go with? i ant one thats not exactly top of the line, but, good for the price. I dont need all the crazy shit, i just need the essentials, its not a race car, i want it to be a fast street car, that will be able to kick the shit out of most other cars on the street. |
imo a good ECU would be the Apex-i Power FC. it's got good programability (does that look right?) and it's not horrendously expensive.
|
reliability (AST, radiator, hoses, boost and water temp guage....)
Intercooler Suspension ECU, ECU, and before you do anything else, ECU Rebuild w/ Port and save the rest..... after all this, it should be enough power to keep you sassyfied for awhile, and you can save up for a single. |
like teamstealth, i'd get a PowerFC, but if you don't wanna screw around with maps and everything, you could look into Pettit's unlimited ecu, or something along that line.......
|
for hoses, radiator, boost and water guage, ast, it's approx. $1000. of course this all depends on what brand you get and all that other bs......
for instance, the guages i used in the example were about $100 each, but the gauge i have/the rest of the guages i'm gettin are less than $40 a piece, so the price could be more, could be less.... but i would definitely do the reliability mods and the ecu, unless you really really really wanna pop the motor |
picked this off the forum about 2 months ago....... some great info on how/when/what to modify. it was in the 3rd gen section if you wanna search for it....
|
damn double posts........
|
reliability mods are replacing the radiator, replacing//removing the ast, replace the vaccum lines, downpipe, and i know that the boost gauge doesnt help make your car more reliable, but its a damn good thing to have to make sure you dont over boost or something.
if you get a mechanic to do it all.. you'd be looking at about $1500. if not, the parts alone are about $900 for quality brand new stuff. i think those would be the MUST have reliablity things.. the fan mod i wouldnt worry about it too much if you have a downpipe and upgraded radiator, but its up to you really.. and the ECU you should definelty get the PFC imo if your looking to stay within 500 hp or so |

If you can't do it get someone else to run a "future value" of that 10k invested in the stockmarket over the next 30 years. At 17 I wish I'd been smart enough to invest in something other than car stuff and other depreciating assets.
Blink and you're 50. Do the reliability and enjopy what you got. Who's gonna outrun you anyway? |
