If you could have anyone rebuild your motor who would it be?

No this is not another "is there a good rotary shop in x-city" post. If you could have your FD engine built by anyone in the country who would it be and why?

I looked in the archives and did a search and could find no similar post.

The reason I ask is because I am about to have a core sent to Pettit. I have heard some bad things about Pettit recently though that may change my mind.

Anyone who has had good or bad experiences with a shop I would love to hear your story.

kevin landers or BDC...bdc for his port work, kevin for his no-nonsense attitude. both are well known, high quality builders.

Extreme Sounds & Motorsports

Corey, The owner of Extreme, he is one of the most nice people I have met, I had to bring him my R1 because it was running strange, I had two other people look at it and they could not figure it out, I bring it to him and just a few days later he had it up and running! and you can really tell he love what he does! I have my car at his shop right now in NC and he is going to be building and porting my motor:icon_tup:

RnR rotary in Glendora :) Because I know their work and I trust them. I drive 140 miles to see those dudes.

I would think that Pettit is one of the premier builders. I have never heard anything negative (that was legitimate) about Pettit. Rotary Performance in TX is also a really good place as is Mazdatrix and Rotary Power here in CA. Not sure why you are sending your motor all the way out to FL when there a lot of good builders here in CA.

If I had to get my own personal motor done right now, I'd have to go with Goodfella since I know him personally and trust him a lot.

They built the cars drift cars for Falken Tire and out of all the cars in Falken's lineup, imagine it, the RX7s were the only ones that didn't need a rebuild.

They can cryo, port and treat whatever part you want...i just wish their website was working. They are located in Vista, CA.

I think Dave left.

Don't get me started on them...

I have heard good things about Rotary Power. What does Goodfella charge?

rebuilds

I would use kevin landers in Morristown TN, I have had 2 engines rebuilt there in the past year and he does A Super job and Also at A great price.

MADDSLOW 04-16-08 04:14 PM

PFS in Maryland.

Rotary4tw 04-16-08 05:10 PM

Without a doubt, Kevin Landers. :icon_tup:

grimple1 04-16-08 06:21 PM

+1 for myself. wish I had the room.

Miata_mx5 04-16-08 06:28 PM

I do not know about porting or exteme/full build. For a good quality, reasonably priced overhaul that i can trust, i would have Rich from IR Performance do it. :icon_tup: I can tell he likes what he does.

bajaman 04-16-08 06:29 PM

go with one of the best. Mr rx7 tt (Chris Rogers)
You won't be disappointed.

finneymc 04-16-08 06:30 PM

makers7 in hatsicahichi (think i spelt that wrong) Japan. They are the shit! i know you said in country but since i am out of country i couldnt really comment on that. Anyways the japanese guys at makers are amazing, and that is all they work on there is 7's

turbo10th 04-16-08 06:32 PM

IR Preformance(aka Rich and Ihor) Gotta give them a good rep since they are building my engine right now with a large street port and no emissons  any way i can't wait to get my car back. These guys know there stuff and willing to help out in anyway with a smile on there face:) , I trust them with my baby and easy on the pockets(not mine since it was not a good core:squint: ).

I would like to learn myself but too lazy and have no moneys left.

GoodfellaFD3S 04-16-08 06:32 PM

Thanks for the props guys. I couldnt do it without Ihor, we're a two man team :)

Oh, and I've heard great stuff about Chris Rogers as well :icon_tup:

They do some nice work over at Makers. I visited their Fukuoka branch for a few days, and got to see them work. They are not really famous for their "parts", but their eye to detail is great. I test drove a 2001 Rx7 at Makers too :)

NoMorePoison 04-16-08 06:33 PM

Or maybe get Mazdaspeed in on it???

I am pretty sure they do not build engines for the public, only sponsor'd cars and racing teams.

silverTRD 04-16-08 06:35 PM

i only know 2 guys that have had personal experience with Rotary Power and neither were good.

I haven't had any experience with their parts but i know that i went in there not speaking much japanese and they were very helpfull, didn't charge much for their work, and had all the things i asked for done in like 45min.

I have replace almost all the stock interior parts, for new stock interior parts, through them for about 250$
