idle problem. please help

I was driving on the highway last night when my friend in his new SRT-4 neon pulled up on me and wanted to race, so we ran from a roll about 4 times. anyways after that when i was on the way home i hit a stop light and while i was stopped my rpm's would just rev up from like 1200 (usual idle when warm) to 1500 every second continuously. it did this at every stop light when it was in gear. it didnt do it when it was in nuetral though. I turned on the car this morning and it was doing the same thing but in nuetral as well. it has never done this before, only after i raced my friend. does anyeone have any ideas?
thanks,
Craig

Sounds like you popped a hose off somewhere.. Vacuum leak = high/fluttering idle.. :)

BTW, who won? :)

Yea, I won against the SRT-4, we went to about 110 and I was slowly walking away from him. My mods are: downpipe, catback, and intake. Anyways, is a vacuum hose leak the only cause of a fluttering idle?
thanks,
Craig

first, try to check all your vaccum hoses, then check the idle control systems and disconnect each one by one

dashpot
ISC
AWS
Wax rod assembly
fast idle screw
the airpump solenoid

oh yeah, what vaccum are you pullingat idle?

also, you might want to check compression if you have a tester laying aroudn someplace

good luck

Where exactly is the fast idle screw?
thanks,
Craig

my vacuum around idle is about 19. i was driving it around last night and the rpms go up and down when i have the clutch in and its in gear. but if im in nuetral it doesnt do this and it idles at about 1500-2000rpms. if i put in in gear, any gear, it drops and starts going up and down again. im guess i have to take off my UIM to check for a vacuum hose leak and if i do, do i have to get a new gasket or anything for it when i put it back on?
thanks,
Craig

anyone have any ideas? is this for sure a vacuum leak or could it be something else?

adjust the air bleed screw under the elbow

ok, i just went outside and did that. when i turned it to tighten it, it was going up and down slower. when i turned it to loosen it it would bounce faster but it never stoped doing it
