Ichiba Wheel Spacers - Suitable for Track Use
 

Hi, Is anyone running Ichiba Wheel spacers along with the Ichiba studs that come with the spacer kit (MZ-52115) on the track ? The reason I ask is I purchased 15mm hubcentric spacers for my FD and they came with studs indicating a Grade of 5.1. I was expecting like a Grade 10.8. Don't want to find out the hard way that they don't hold up so figured I'd ask. Being Ichiba seems to be a well sold in brand I would not expect a problem, but again, figured I'd ask.

if they are hub centric the spacers should be fine. you probably want to use better studs though, if its just a track day on street tires you could probably just retorque the lug nuts every session.

Replacing rear wheel studs is not for the faint of heart. Also, if you are concerned about the studs, you may want to check ARP studs

At the very least I would replace the studs with ARP. The studs that come with those spacers are not the best.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. So they are hubcentric spacers, so that's a good thing. And agreed, not the best studs, but apparently not terrible either. I did call ARP to see what they had to offer. The tech confirmed Grade 5.1 metric is equivalent to Grade 5 SAE, or 120k psi tensile strength. The ARP studs are Grade 8 SAE, or 190k psi, so clearly a higher grade. As I already have installed the studs (dummy i am should have taken a closer look up front) and am running street tires, for now I'll monitor closely.

And yes, rear hubs were a total pain as having been assembled in 1993 and gradually corroding into one assembly ever since. Took a hydraulic press and a little heat to tease apart. If I do swap out with ARP's, should come apart easily as now cleaned up and freshly assembled with new grease.
