I need help...

Ok, I got my 94 rx7 today. The people that brough it too me drove it 900 miles with nothing goin wrong. I drive it a little bit today and get back too see antifreeze flying out the hood. I open up the hood and see it on the upper radiator hose i guess? What can it be? I check all hoses and all are tight...

Any ideas?

you had a supra and sold it for an FD?

Kento 03-09-04 07:24 PM

Just because the radiator hoses are "tight" doesn't mean they can't leak. The excessive underhood temps of the FD degrades rubber components pretty quickly. If your radiator is stock, the plastic end tanks could also be leaking. Check everything out carefully.

iceman4357: Yes, I had an NA supra

Kento: would it be a good idea to dump a little fluid in , then turn it on too see where it come from?

iceman4357 03-09-04 07:40 PM

oh... u went from an NA supra, then its cool. Where is the leak at?

iceman4357 03-09-04 07:41 PM

let the car run at idle until its warm, squeeze the tubes and see if they have pressure or if they leak.

So what's wrong with that?

If you have a coolant leak somewhere I'd be really careful with running the car and getting it anywhere near warm.

Pressure test it. Lots of times you won't even find the leak until the hose is under pressure forcing the weakness to reveal itself.

How do I pressure test it? BTW: you guys reply fast!!!

You can fill the coolant system and warm up the car enough to troubleshoot leaks without endangering the engine. Pressure will build and leaks will reveal themselves long before temps rise to dangerous levels. You just need to keep a close watch while the engine warms up.

Take it to any local mechanic or go to your nearest autoparts srore and rent a pressure tester. It is quite simple to use. Make sure the car has cooled before checking.

Alright, thanks . I will try the pressure test tomorrow...

Good luck!
