I have a Downpipe and high flo-catalytic converter, what should my next mod be?

I so far have a bonez downpipe and high flo catalytic converter.....need a new air filter its dirty but want to do away with stock air box i have fabricated a K&N filter intake system to fit accordion intake tubes...also made heat shield with some aluminum from hardware store. i have yet to instal it because i am afraid of spiking really bad....shoot right now i am hitting 14 psi on 3rd-4th gear at WOT! not good because fuel cut is around 12psi correct? SO what should my next mod be...will i be fine with the intake or is it going to be too open? or should i just get a new ecu like a haltech......... not sure about getting a m2 style ecu because they are only so good untill a certain point and cant be fully tuned like the haltech.....by the way i have pics of my car i wanna share them with the forum can someone post them for me or tell me how?

THANKS! :zip: :zip:

next mod should be an ECU. get an Apex Power FC.

MeLoco 12-19-01 04:11 AM

Go haltech it's your best bet

BlackR1 12-19-01 04:14 AM

or, you could always buy the new AEM ecu and report it's performance. If not, get the PFC. You wont last too much longer having 14lb boost spikes accompanied with fuel cut

Johnsrx7 12-19-01 06:45 AM

I highly recommend a new computer, with the 14 psi, your motor is living off borrowed time. I recommend a PFC, a haltech requires to much install work plus you have to run premix with it.

Everyone here is right. Get an ECU (I have the PFC and would chose it again...unless the AEM is as good as they claim). Or a boost controller.

I would try to take it easy until you are able to get your boost under control and/or get adequate fuel for the boost level...14 psi is really gambling with your engine, the next run could pop it.

and I second that notion. :D

get a mp and cat back?

jasonsr1 12-19-01 09:23 AM

Do these upgraded ECU's eliminate 3k hesitation. All suggested mods pertaining to 3k hesitation have been done.:pity:

He's already hitting 14PSI and you suggest a midpipe and catback?

He definitely needs a new or upgraded ECU, and I would also suggest looking into a Boost Controller. Keep in mind that if you eventually go with a midpipe, the boost controller won't help you out with boost creep should you actually experience any.

I know the power fc is supposed to but I don't know about the others.

Upgrade the ECU !

Def go with an ECU upgrade b4 u go on...

I know guys always dawg the PFS Purple, but its working well with my mods...i keep it at 13 psi ( i have an auto) and it works real nice... Actually runs pretty rich 100% of the time. So i'm playing it safe and going with an N-tech high flow cat soon when i replace my stock cat...When i wanna upgrade from there, then maybe i will think about Haltech...But any upgrade from an open exhaust and cold air calls for a single, and for that i will go haltech...Hope this helps...

TainoIndian 12-19-01 10:37 PM

thats what i thought

i am taking it easy just damn i hate letting off the gas when i hit high psi's what is the ecu to get i want one i can use for the remainder of the cars mods not have to buy new one once i get too many mods.

TainoIndian 12-19-01 10:38 PM

how much power will i have once i get ecu and put on the intake?

quickrx7 12-19-01 11:31 PM

It's tough to dyno guess FDs but being a conservative number is usually best

dp - 10 rwhp
catback 10 rwhp
hi-flo cat 8 rwhp
Power FC (set at 12 psi) 20 rwhp
intake 10 rwhp
stock FD 220 rwhp

so around 275-285 rwhp being conservative. Probably a little more but I always figure low and be surprised rather than figuring high and being dissappointed. The Power FC fixes the 3K hesitation. Very smooth computer - with the mods you have it will suit your needs - and no premix. The fuel system is always overlooked in a FD - upgrade the ECU first - it will be rich enough for you to run a cb, hi-flo, dp, and intake without tuning it. Getting a mp will get you more hp up high but cause you problems contolling boost creep - especially if you're having spikes now with hi-flo and dp. Your fuel pump and injectors are ok for this power.

how much does that haltech run ya? and why do you guys say also get a PFC? what does that stand for?

Apex'i Power FC. Kicks ass. Much better than an upgraded ECU.

With the Haltech, there's serious labor involved for installation--like over a grand at a reputable shop I believe. I installed my Power FC in ten minutes :D
