I have the chance to buy a JDM Spec rx7 which one to buy
 

Here in Panama JDM cars are fine.

I dont know which model to buy and which one is the 2 plus 2 or just 2 seater. What is the weight difference and which ones have the lease issues.

Ideally I´d like a 1999 but a 1996 to 1998 would be fine. However the early models are dirt cheap.

Most JDM models were 2+2... I think only the special models like the Spirit R Type A and the RZ and the R1 were 2+0, though my knowledge is solely gleaned from internet forums and websites, most of which is contradictory so take it with a grain of salt.

FWIW, the back seat is really an after thought anyway. It's a direct swap to change between 2 or 4 seats.

I can pick up a 1993 to 1995 spec for 3800

And a 1996 to 1998 for 5500 to 7000

You guys should look at the Japanese auctions. They have 1992-1996 FD3S's going anywhere from $2000-5000 USD.

There are actually quite a lot of JDM models that come with 2 seats. IMO the rear seats are useless anyways. My better half is Tiny, and she can't fit in the back comfortably.
I've got a 1994 Type R2 and that's a two seater :)
The Bathurst models are some of the 'lower spec' ones, but a lot of the models are very similar except for trim changes.
However (and here my knowledge is a bit thing) in 1993-94 they changed the map slightly, and in (possibly) '96 they changed to a 16 bit ECU.

I imported mine from Japan and I love it, but it can be a loittery - Mine was from a garage forevourt and i had an agent in japan inspecting possible cars. Personally, I didn't really want to get a car from an auction - they are cheaper, but part of me is always mroe suspecious of why a car is being shipped out the country (although admittedly a lot of this is due to the Japanese 'shaken' roadworthiness tests and the associated costs)

If money were no object i'd be looking at either a 96 Type RZ (But make sure it has all the original features) or a 99 onwards spirit R.

Cars may look cheap at the auctions, but bear in mind you need to add shipping, tax (both sides), registration, etc :)

Yeah I don't want an auction car. Unless an amazing car with 35,000 kilometers and nice volk wheels come ups.

I want a car with under 60,000 kilometers which is about 28,000 miles. I heard that the 96 to 98 had different vacuum lines changed which makes it a little bit more reliable.

Shipping is about 800 and taxes are about 1000.00

You realise the Bathurst R is quite near the bottom of the spec tree don't you?

If i could have imported a Spirit R I would have done - the 99 spec interiors are a much nicer place to be.
The RZ's are almost identical to the RS except for the seats IIRC - But the seats are sublime. However, nothing that can't be sorted aftermarket. Although the rarity value of an RZ is appealing, to fully appreciate that I'd want a stock one, and there aren't many left.

The rat's nest was replaced as part of the '96 makeover i believe :)

There are piccies of mine in the pictures sticky - don't want to spam this thread with them - but the other bonus is i got quite a few very nice rare JDM parts with it - MazdaSpeed undertray and diffuser, RE:A AD9 bonnet, etc :) Only on 64,000 KM and a 1994 :)

Yeah the bathurst are about 22 kilos heavier.

Taxes here are very low for a regular economy car its only 400 to 600 dollars.

It all depends on what you plan on doing with the car. If you want to modify it significantly, I'd say buy a 93 R1 from a used car dealer in Japan (I got mine from IBC for 800000jpy in almost new condition 70,000 kilometers, a full Defi gauge installation, and racing rims worth $4000us and intakes, exhaust etc. done). If you take your time like I did, you'll get one in condition 4/4 with all the performance/reliability mods for less than 10k us.

The sellers do a full evaluation of the car so you won't get any surprises, especially with the engine.

These R1s are pretty reliable, they are more "performance oriented" compared with the R2 etc. and have 2 seats in the back which you can swap with storage bins from a 95+ model.

Bottom line IMO you get more bang for your buck with a 93 R1 from Japan. The RZ and Spirit R are newer and may come with fewer miles, slightly different features and a 16 bit ECU, but you'll pay 1,500,000jp+ for a decent one.

That additional money can go towards buying a treadmill, a girlfriend, and a personal trainer so you can lose 22kilos of body weight, thereby increasing your HP to weight ratio ;-) Good luck.

You'll can pay over twice that amount.....
