I got tricked about my ecu.....

When I bought my car the guy told me it had an upgraded ecu of some sort from the 1st owner, but he wasnt sure which one. I found installation instructions for the PFS unit in the cars record folder but there is not one installed on the car. I opened up the ecu and it apears all stock, no extra boards. The car had a cat back and PFS intercooler and intake setup when I bought it and I just changed out the DP since it is so strongly recomended. But my recent discovery of a stock ecu worries me as now I have a catback, downpipe, larger SMIC and Intake setup, by general rules this is more than the stock ecu can handle correct? My plan is to buy a used pettit, pfs or M2 ecu to get me by untill I have the $ for a PFC and tuning. But how worried should I be about the car? Am I driving it in an unsafe condition? I have an S13 also so I can leave the FD parked if its too risky, but I figure if I make sure the boost stays under 10psi that should be ok. What do you guys think and what would be the best temporarly ecu to look for?

I Think you already know the answer!

Better safe than Sorry, it's hard not to drive the 7, but seems like you been researching it and know the answer, plus you have another ride!

Yep. Stock ECU will support almost any mods up to 10 psi.

HOW IS THE THREE MOD RULE STILL BEING PROPAGATED???

Just keep it at 10 psi and you will be 100% fine. Anyone who says differently doesn't know what they are talking about.

Hey, you are in SLO? Thats pretty close to me. I noticed the efini Y pipe was on your list in that other thread you linked, is that another item that can attribute to a dangerous condition on stock ecu? My car has one of these on it but I thought its only purpose was to get rid of the rubber piece to prevent leaks.

San Lorenzo's in the Bay Area, man, not SoCal... :)

Read the thread Adam linked to. If you are at 10 psi or less, the stock ecu is fine with any bolt-on.

I am in SLO :). The efini y-pipe flows better, so it is a performance mod. It doesn't leak, so it is also a reliability mod. It will increase your boost, so it could contribute to a lean condition if combined with other mods. As stated above, stay at 10 psi on the stock ECU, and you won't have any problems.

Haha, SLO isnt socal either, central coast :) Ill probably just drive my bucket S13 anyway till i get an ecu. I was getting tired of the fd's smooth ride and tired of driving a car with carpet and sound insulation and an lsd that doesnt go clunk cluck, lol.
