I can't turn my cooling fans off!!!!

Today, I turned the fans on as I was sitting in traffic. I have that mod where you can turn them on whenever you want. After it cooled off to 180F I turned the switch off, or so I thought I did. I noticed my temps aren't going up no more. So I got out of the car and I saw the fans are still running.

I disconnected the switch completely, so the relays aren't grounded and fans should turn off. But they are still running. I started taking out the relays, the first 2 toward the winshield. Fans still stayed on, The speed went down a little, but they were still running.

So i took the fuse that said cooling fans on and they stoped working. However as soon as i put it in, they start running. What is going on here?

Anybody had a similar situation? Is one of the relays bad? Which one?

Thanks a lot.

Mine does the exact same thing and I mean exact. I cannot figure out why.

You did the mod where u wire the 2 together into one then to the switch correct?

on a side note... I have noticed if you turn them on for like under 3 mins u can still turn them off but if you go over they are on for good. And they run ten mins after you turn off the car too

but that just started today. It never did that before. I put the fuse back in and it didn't start. I also wired the switch back in and it works now. I can turn it off. I'll have to see when i drive it later on today if it'll do the same thing.

I think this is the mod he's talking about. Interesting... I bought the switch a while back to do this but haven't gotten around to it yet.

its real easy to do.

Just get a switch that can do "ON/OFF" then, take off the panel that your ecu is located behind. There is a black wire that is not connected to anything in that area, it has a female connector on it. I forgot what its called, but anyways. All you do, is ground one end of the switch, and the other end, run a wire that connects to this black connector found near the ecu. Mine do the same thing, if I keep the switch on while turning my car off, the fans will run for 10 minutes. If I turn the switch off before turning the car off, the fans will turn off with the car.

Oh and another note. If you leave this switch on the "on" position, for a long time. It will drain your battery.

Do you have any idea what BoostinFD's problem might be?

Check the fan thermosensor. Its the black sensor on the back of the thermostat housing underneath the green coolant sensor. If it fails, the fans will run all the time when the car is on.
