i cant get into the 12's

i went to the track last night and got a 13.2 and my best is a 13.016. i made two passes last night and my clutch let go in the middle of third on the second pass.

check this time slip out.
rt .207
60' 000 it didnt give me a 60ft time on this slip
330 5.738
1/8 8.651
mph 85.57
990 11.054
1/4 13.223
mph 108.48
my 60 ft on my second pass was 2.014 i figure my firt pass 60ft was arround that.

on my 13.016 run my mph was 106.00. i dont get why i cant i hit a high 12.

vosko 07-12-03 01:32 PM

not bad. what tires

airn 07-12-03 01:41 PM

nitto 555 265/30/18. street tires not the drag radials.

fdeeznutz 07-12-03 01:46 PM

get some m\t et streets My time with street tires 13.5 107...2.1 60'....My time on the e\t steets 12.2 113 with a 1.77 60'. Get some slicks;)

vosko 07-12-03 01:59 PM

hmmmm if you get et streets you might break an axle or your diff or all those other great things that break when you drag race lol

Yea but you will be deep in the 12's:)

I have made about 80 passes with balls out launches and have had no problems, My friend drives the same at the track, no problems there either. All of us FD owners know about Murphy's Law.

Elegant Black Monster 07-12-03 02:23 PM

Hmm doing 108 you should be doing 12s. Odds are you're spinning too much. These guys are probably right. You should get some drag radials and check out your clutch to make sure its not slipping.

GoodfellaFD3S 07-12-03 02:51 PM

Not bad at all. Hell, trapping 115 I couldn't break into the 12s---it took a trap of 117! This was on street tires and stock diff/ppf, so no hard launching for me. I'm thinking of going TII diff and MS PPF when I get back.....

well i have about 50 passes and i have broken, two differentials, three trannies, three ppf's , one set of axles, i guess with less power you won't break as much and most people aren't as abusive towards their car as i am

Looking at your mods, it looks like you could save some weight by getting rid of one of the mid pipes. No intake listed. A good intake would help if you don't have one.

Smartass :D

Bucrx7 07-12-03 03:53 PM

If you can get a 1.9 60 foot time you'll break into the 12s. I wouldn't drag race with 18s on because you will break you rear end or if you do have a upgraded diff you'll break your pumpkin. I would suggest using ET streets since the tires are soft and will absorb the vibrations. It feels like you're on air.

kyle@insight 07-12-03 05:02 PM

Wish I could see what your 60' was. That's a major deciding factor on where there is room for improvement. I can imagine it wasn't that great on the 18"s tho. How were you launching?

YayeR 07-12-03 07:13 PM

smaller wheels, stickier wider tires (slicks), make sure the rear end is solid, and maybe turn up the boost a notch, you're garunteed to be deep in the 12s. don't overlook the rear end because like vosko said, things break :( 12s is not worth a broken diff or axle.

thanks guys i'll have to get some et streets for my stock wheels and give it another shot. i was lanching arround 4-4500. it felt like the launch on my second pass was alot better but the damm clutch slipped in third.

thanks GoodfellaFD3S i never noticed i was running two midpipes. ill have to change that

vosko 07-13-03 12:06 AM

note: running on drag tires is SCARY. last time i used my M&H's i ran 12.7 @ 99 MPH ...... my car was all over the road almost hit the wall like 10 times! i slammed on the brakes on the end so i didn't loose control. that should have been an 11 second run too :(

Try launching 5500-6000 RPM and slip the clutch. Hold it just on the limits of traction, when it feels like you've got some grab let it fly.

Yeah running ET streets ar 13psi or lower is SCARY, it feels like the rear is going to come out on you but if you hold the steering wheel straight you should be fine. Strap on those ET streets and do some 7k launches :D .

Couldn't have said it better myself. Strap 'em on, launch hard, hang on :D

Yeah, I'm looking into a Kaaz or a TII diff when I get back. Man, sooooo many ways to spend all this deployment cash. HIDs, H2o injection, PPF, diff, it never ends :D

Launching on E.T. streets is FUN as hell. The car just hooks and goes straight. It is not scary at all, launch the car at about 6k or so. Hold on tight, because it goes stright as a arrow to the end.

Good Luck !!!!!!!
Matt

Do you have any dyno sheets showing a pull to 10k+? I tried the link over on 0pistons but it didn't work......

vosko 07-13-03 11:00 AM
