Hyper grounding system +15 rwhp???
In the december 2002 issue of Import tuner they did a dyno on a 1995 Rx-7 with the following mods: "Stock engine, Apexi GT front mount intercooler, RSR catback exhaust, Apex Power FC tuned by XS, 550cc primary injectors, 1300cc secondary injectors, stock twin-turbos"
rpm Before After Gain 3000 129.2 134.7 5.5 3500 163.8 166.2 2.4 4000 185.5 186.6 1.1 4500 233.3 240.0 6.7 5000 265.7 274.5 8.8 5500 289.3 298.9 9.6 6000 306.6 311.4 4.8 6500 313.0 328.3 15.3 7000 320.7 330.3 9.6 Before is the rwhp before adding the ground kit. After is the rwhp after adding the ground kit. Gain is the amount of rwhp gained from using the ground kit. What do you guys think? Thats a gain of 15.3 rwhp @6500 rpms not bad for only like 90 bucks.... |
I'll tell you how to make your own for 5 bucks.
Get some sandpaper, Vaseline, and the service manual. Every single place there is a ground on the car, remove it, sand the surfaces, clean it up, and apply some Vaseline and tighten the bolt back down. You will have good grounds then. Come on, what are they selling you for 90 bucks? Brian |
:bsflag:
Unless this car was in frucked condition to begin with.. |
lol that is really funny, im about to do what brian says, will it make the car have increase in hp just by cleaning some ground wires?

Don't forget to grease your muffler bearings. Good for at least 6 RWHP.
People need to stop thinking you can get something for nothing. Remember, you get what you pay for. |

ever since I moved my exhaust system and mounted it on the passender side door panel I have gained a total of 5 ponies at the flywheel. Never knew of such a cheep way of getting extra ponies.

There are...
...literally dozens of these kits I see advertised in Options, Carboy, Revspeed etc etc all the time, and most claim 3-7ps or so. The only way I could see it working, is what has been said - by fixing an already faulty/insufficient grounding point.
Remember to flush and refill your blinker fluid monthly too.. |
Blinker fluid.............always change your blinker fluid....and expect about a 50hp increase. This mod works better than the tornado:)
|
I thought the article said that XS Engineering did the test on a dyno and the RX-7 showed the most gains. It also said XS did the test on 2 other cars and they all showed gains just not as much.
|
I wouldnt trust anything Import Tuner publishes. Any car can get in that mag as long as it has a stupid paint job, a body kit, and an absurdly loud (and heavy) stereo.
|
Wasn't that headlight fluid and two transmissions?
I have the tornado in my Honda. It probably does something but it is the gains worth $75? Hey, it costs a fortune to gain HP on a Honda. |

Hey I greased my Filter bearings and muffler bearings and I got almost 50hp
HAHAHAHA |
Wow I actually wanted to buy this thing. I talked to a 3rd gen owner at Seventock and he told me he got a gain of 10 hp to the wheels. The company is called sunautomobile they have a website http://www.sunautomobile.com but the guy told me it cost like $150 and paid to get it installed
|
They don't list a RX-7 specific kit but RE-Amemiya has a version on jt-imports.

I have to raise the flag again. Plus talk to Jason at www.jt-imports.com he has a hook-up on SUN auto parts Matt |
when i was tuning with the datalogit we found that if the car was not grounded properly that we did NOT get accurate readings....now here is the thing...if they didnt get accurate afr readings and the afr was too rich a proper ground would enable them to tune it to the right afrs and thus would gain more power.
there is a connection there...between accurate tuning and proper grounding....and I dont fully understand the math but it does exist... basically...if you had a car grounded like shit and tried to tune it you would not be able to tune it properly because of discrepancies in the readings...what you think 11.2 afrs are might actually be higher or lower than that depending on how the car is grounded...making it impossible to add the right amount of fuel.....and since proper tuning equals more power these fools that sell these kits claim more power from them. j. |
btw...the new datalogit software has an equation? to make up for the above grounding issue and makes it possible to get proper readings even if the wideband does not have exactly the same ground as the ecu...or so Im hearing from the datalogit guys.

sandpaper, Vaseline... got'em.
how about replacing all the stock wires with thicker wires while at it? |

Ok...look at it this way. Bad grounds= more resistance in the electrical system=more resistance on the alternator=more strain on the motor=less HP. Dunno about a full 10HP. Just clean your grounds. A wire brush and some non corrosive goop will work...careful with vasaline. Petrolium based....don't get any on your wire jackets.
|
anyone have pics of where the engine grounds are? and how many of them there are for that matter?
|
BTW how can the car make 129hp @3000 rpm isn't that too low? For some strange reason I think it's way too low. Khris
