Huge Radiator Issue!help Please
 

OK SO

I Put in a used stock radiator in today....everything is GREAT start the car let it warm checked for leaks temp rose as normal everything PERFECT! even SOUNDS BETTER thanks to my new intake! BUT so i let it sit keep checkin everything and all of a sudden!! the temp gauge SHOOTS UP to H!!! i was like SON OF A AHH shut the car off and yeah ANY IDEAS PLEASE i NEED TO FIGURE THIS OUT AND Need my car and please no save up for a rebuild i know THAT! thanks anything will help

possibly an air pocket when you re-filled the water

how can i like prevent that if thats the case?
also what would an air pocket do just build extra pressure/?

Did you burp the coolant system?

What i did on my new motor to get air out was unscrew temp sender on back side of water pump and it will bleed air. Mabye a bit extreme but i dont have ast and i didnt want a problem cooling. Air pockets can cause pump to cavatate and not circulate.

When refilling the system, be sure to fill slowly to prevent air pockets from forming. Using a filler neck funnel is recommended (see links section); it's also very important to check the coolant level regularly for the next 2-5 trips after a coolant flush, adding coolant as necessary.

Ensure that the filler and AST caps are sealing properly, and venting at the correct pressure. If your pressure caps aren't working properly, the coolant will boil at a lower temperature, which will allow the engine to overheat more easily. New pressure caps are $12-25 from the dealer, which is much cheaper fixing an overheated engine. It wouldn't hurt to buy new caps every 3-5 years.

Replace old coolant hoses, every 5-10 years. If a coolant hose fails, the cooling system won't hold pressure, allowing the coolant to boil at a lower temperature, which will allow the engine to overheat. It's very common for hoses to develop small cracks or splits that are hard to see, so it's better to just replace old hoses than to wait for a catastrophic failure. Don't forget the coolant line that connects the AST to the overflow tank. If this line doesn't hold vacuum, coolant overflow won't be sucked back into system when the car cools down. The cooling system will slowly lose coolant (which decreases operating pressure and reduces the system boiling point, leading to overheating).

HOLY SHIT
OK i did that i rememebr readin when you refill to like...im not 100% on this but
1fill her up
2close the filler cap leave the ast open
3start the car let it run and what not
4then close it up if no bubbles appear

ok i did that but then i think i didnt put enough coolant in so i went and got some super quick filled it back up and SHIT didnt repeat that ast step but is that what i should have done ? and that mgiht have been my problem...

oh and how do you get the the back of the water pump!!?!!? i took a look and said f that! but how do u get back there?
PLEAASE ANYOTHER IDEAS ON WHAT HAPPENED?!!

ah yeah ive seen that thing before! thanks ill see if i can swing that

umm pretty quick cause i took my eye off it talked to a girl....go me for beign A COMPLETE DUMBASS and look back to get in the car and move it a few minutes later and it was up to the h i KILLED the engine in a heart beat but it was running fine....i dunno i hope this doesnt kill me!

A couple of pointers when filling the cooling system

Remove the throttle body upper coolant line
Remove the AST and water fill cap
Pour the coolant in very slowly, I pour it in at a rate of one liter per minute.
Fill until coolant comes out the throttle body coolant line.
Seal the system back up
Squeeze the upper radiator hose several times
Check level at fill cap and top off
Squeeze the upper radiator hose several times
Check level at fill cap and top off
Squeeze the upper radiator hose several times
Check level at fill cap and top off
Start car and let run until it is up to temperature, monitor gauge the whole time.
Let car cool over night then check water level, fill if necessary.
Check reservoir for proper level.
Drive car as normal
Check again after car cools and top off as necessary.
