hows this FD?

okay guys so i got the chance to check out an FD today. So far im impressed but newbies are impressed easily. Got to drive it too. heres where i found out about it first of all { http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=173298699&dealer_id=&car_year=1993& make=MAZDA&distance=100&max_price=15000&model=RX7& end_year=1995&advcd_on=n&min_price=0&address=90630 &search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1993&color =&cardist=6}
he started selling it for i think 13.9k but he told me almost immeadiately 12k flat cuz thats what he said hes gonna possibly sell it to another guy for. He said it had an engine swap already with a 99' spec 13b from japan he said theres less that 40k on the engine but 100k or so on the chassis. So this is what he has on the car : apex'i exhaust, dual intakes, afc commander, turbo timer, 99' spec tail lights, infiniti kappas all around and a 500$ pioneer head unit all with a clean title. he seems like he really wants to unload it fast cuz of his current life situation. Im pretty gitty in getting it but i guess only fools rush in. What else am i missing to check.

If all is mechanically sound, thats a good price. Does he have reciepts for new motor? How does it idle? What does it boost at? Just look carefully for anything wrong with it, and if you havent yet, run the VIN. Good luck.

he said he can scrounge up the paper work plus it was intalled locally so he said the info can be aquired there too. Well what is mechanically sound in term of the FD i drove it and it seemed all is well but thats coming from a newb

Two words: Compression test

Get one done and see where the car stands. It doesn't have to have 200k miles on the engine to have low compression.

if compression is okay then wat?

In the newbie thread (very first one in this forum), go to "Buying an RX-7" and check all the things listed in the four links. Also get very familiar with the reliability mod lists on those sites. Currently the scuderiaciriani site is being moved to FD3s.net, so you may be without that one.

Also ask when/how these things have been replaced/added:
- pillow ball bushings
- door handles
- FPD, last fuel filter change
- hoses, check valves
- radiator, last coolant change
- boost gauge (check the boost pattern!!), water temp gauge
- turbos
- recalls
- clutch, 5th gear synchro, last tranny fluid change
- air separation tank
- tires

Plus, the more questions you ask and inspect, the more serious and knowledgeable you will sound and command greater respect in bargaining.

True That. When I got my FD it was an impulse thing - didn't plan on it and so I hadn't done any research. If I had I'm certain I could have talked the dealer down more. I know I paid a bit much but I could have paid less. You're on the right track though.

def check that compression you wan to be somewhere in the 90 to 110 range to be safe
