How to Vent stock bypass etc

Is there a link with a how to diagram or pics? Because I've searched for 3 days only coming up with opinions etc. Im asking because I just bought my fd.. the it has the apexi intake and i'm getting a weird sound. I want to see if its being vented and its normal or if its stock and leaking. I'll be taking video later today. :wallbash:

what???

Um... Modifying the stock Blow Off Valve to vent into the atmosphere is a fairly simple, straight forward procedure.

1) Pop the hood.

2) Find the BOV (You will find two bypass valves that look similar above your turbo's and attached to your intakes, it's the front one).

3) Take the front pipe off of it.

4) Block the opening to the pipe you just removed.

5) Close your hood.

Job done. =)

The ONLY thing this will do is give you a minor "Pssshhhtttt!" sound, there are no performance advantages (that I know of) in venting the BOV.

Oh, the weird sound it's making.... can you describe it?

I figured it out..and vented both the CRV and stock BOV ...and the sound remains. I think its my wastegate. I'll take video today/tonight and have it up by late tonight or early tomorrow. Its like a highpitched wine inbetween shifts *bbbyeowwwwww* haha

fendamonky 11-08-08 05:48 PM

I'd plug the CRV back in if I were you... not sure what the effects of unplugging that one would be. Knowing the 7 it might not be fun to find out though...

dgeesaman 11-09-08 07:26 AM

Do you have a boost gauge? Are you getting full boost?

jonnyrx7 11-09-08 01:15 PM

After searching on the forum.. everyone said that the CRV would be fine vented.
My car feels like its boosts fine..but no boost gauge yet. Gauges are on the way.

After talking to a handful of people.. everyones pointing at the mysterious sound to be my Wastegate Actuator.

And also since I did the vent mod....randomly my Oil Pressure warning light will flash and then disappear. I'm getting no oil spray out of the BOV or CRV.

*people said it typically mists* Cars running & idling fine. Hmmmm I'll take actual video tonight...still curious how I'm going to mount my camera thats why I haven't already.

AND I've noticed since I bought the car.. if I just want to rev it up to hear the bypass or now the BOV it doesn't blow off... and if i pop the hood and pull on the throttle to rev I see that at high rpms the air pump will suddenly stop.. make a weird noise...and then keep going. But while driving it acts/feels fine. But if I just rev... i dont get the bov sound

still waiting for video

20B 3 Rotor 11-09-08 04:48 PM

My blow off valve is vented, and it wont make the pssht sound you want when in neutral (or park when I rev since I am automatic).

Im pretty sure the FD is set up so it wont boost in neutral or park, or it could be that we both have the same factory boost limiter that wont allow it to (if I am wrong about all FD's not boosting in neutral or park since I am only basing this on yours and my FD).

RotorDream 11-10-08 02:10 AM

20B you are correct. the FD won't go into full boost except under load it will fluctuate around 0-.75psi or so. you can still get the sound if you listen really really closely as much of a sound as .75psi of boost can make from a bov lol

I have the Apexi intakes, and the ABV sounds the same wether its vented to atmosphere, or hooked up, due to the fact that they ore open element filters. the stock airbox had baffles or whatever to limit the sound.

jonnyrx7 11-10-08 03:01 AM

VIDEO! This issue was here before I vented my stock Bypass/BOV.
Also aside from this..when I pop the hood..and pull on the throttle to rev the car...the airpump pulley or whatever will randomly make a sound & stop...then keep going. No idea if thats normal or related.

Heres the vid :wallbash:

Like I said.. a few people that weren't rx7 owners said it was the Wastegate Actuator. I've only had the car for a month. Any other symptoms of whats going on is that i have a small oil leak..previous owner said he searched multiple times & couldn't find the source.

RotorDream 11-10-08 03:11 AM

well what many owners dont know is that there is actually a very tiny puppy under the turbos that runs your wastegate lol he needs you to change his water lol

but in all seriousness idk wtf that sound was, but its one of the weirdest sounds ive ever heard, if it only happens during transition its not your wastegate actuator, it could be the charge control valve or the prespool actuator

IRPerformance 11-10-08 11:52 AM

Put a breather filter on the end of the BOV if you vent it. The valves do suck in air under vacuum.

Are you getting the Mooo sound? There is a simple fix that involves poking holes in a rubber foot for a chair and capping a hose...

maybe thats what it is. Which hose?

did u even watch the video? it sounds nothing like the airpump moo, maybe u should read the whole thread before wasting the forums bandwith with pointless posts

rotarymandan 11-10-08 11:45 PM

^ Nope I didn't watch the video. I was having internet trouble. You do realize that your post wasted just as much bandwidth as my previous one. So thanks for perpetuating the cycle of pointless posts.

RotorDream 11-10-08 11:51 PM

and yet your post started it all, so that makes you responsible for both your own wasted bandwith and mine. hmm funny how that works and now this one aswell

blizzaga 11-11-08 12:07 AM

Damn! That is the funniest sound I have ever heard! But in contrary to what 20b 3 rotor said, I have an auto FD and I get boost when I'm on Neutral...is that wrong? I always thought it was normal.

if your getting a full 10psi of boost in neutral, there is something wrong. IIRC stock FDs should only boost to at most 1-2psi in neutral or park

jonnyrx7 11-11-08 02:53 AM

hmm if its not the MooMoo sound...then maybe i have a bad solenoid? or its the wastegate actuator

RLaoFD 11-11-08 03:01 AM

A boost gauge will get you started in the right direction. If the car boosts fine, we'll go from there.
