How to Test Plug Wires?

I know I can use a multi-meter IF I unhook the wires from the coils, but I really don't want to mess with those connections if I can avoid it.

Is there another way to test the spark plug wires that works?

I've seen YouTubes of spraying them with soapy water and watching for arcs, not sure that would tell the whole story.

Also, is there a way to test the coils without removing the wires?

Car is running poorly, stalls and backfires aplenty.
Already changed the Dashpot and tested the TPS.

Thanks

Go ahead and test the coils, there's a simple procedure it the shop manual to test them. That's a possibility.

If they're stock plug wires and look decent, they're probably OK. If they're ratty, weirdo aftermarket ones, might be worth getting a new set. New wires are CHEAP.

Also, I assume you've done a compression test?

Dale,

I thought the FSM procedures were with the wires off and testing on the coil plugs. Is there a way to test with the plug wires still On the coils. Just don't want to keep taking the TB off/on.

Yes, compression is fine.

Thanks

Spray water at the wire is to see if it is arching outside of the wire instead of towards the spark plug. Not a good way to test the wire itself.

To test it correctly, remove the wire and OHM test it with a DVOM. Not sure what the specs are but I am pretty darn sure that's the right way to test the wires.
