how to tell if engine has been rebuilt

i apologize if the question is too newbish, but i am curious. I bought an R1 with 92k on it. The car is absolutly perfect condition. There isnt a spec of dirt anywhere. The engine runs perfect as well, and im wondering maybe my engine was rebuilt at some point. The previous owner bought the car from auction and sold it to me, so there are no in depth records, just a 90k mile tune up. The car drives straight and true, and it was inspected by a friend of mine who works for a local garage. Im wondering if there is an easy way to tell if the engine has been rebuilt, besides the fact that it runs great. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Here is a shot of my engine

Wow, man...nice find! I just bought a red R1 this past weekend with 95k on it.

Do you mind if I ask what you paid for it? The CYM paint color is very rare...they usually go for a bit more.

AFA if it is rebuilt, I asked this same question awhile back and here was the response:

Look for fresh marks/gouges underneath the engine pull mounts. If the engine has been pulled it may be an indication of a rebuild??

Also, check the areas where main engine components are bolted together and sealed with a gasket. If the edge of the gasket looks fairly new, then that may suggest a recent rebuild. ??

AND, if your engine isn't blowing even a little smoke by now, especially at WOT(referrng to the 92K miles), then there's a probability it's been replaced or rebuilt.

Regardless, it's a great looking FD!! Enjoy.

all of the gaskets look brand new to me, and did those small bolts on the manifold come polished like that from the factory?

I'd say if it never has, rotor pressure should drop within the next 30-40K mi at the latest... and if it has, it's never to early to save for another :D

Everything looks great. Wonder why the battery cover is missing??

Isn't there a way you can check the VIN or other information/stickers on the car to see if it's the original engine.

very nice car... looks brand new! You should take a pic of the whole car. (i love cym)

exactly, with 90k on an "original" engine, MOST of the time you will see signs of fatigue.. theres def a rebuilt somewhere in the past, prob recent, thats why the new look and feel..

the easiest way to find out is just to check compression. if it is perfecto with high miles then you can bet on a good rebuild.

not a sure fire bet...but id bet it anyway.

good compression equals happy you.

cheers

Look for a Mazda sticker on the oilpan...It may have an original motor.

the factory remans have a blue plate behind the alt area

To answer your bolt question yes. 93s, all of them I think, have those nice chrome nuts, Mazda went to sickening green in 94.
