How to support the transmission with the engine removed? (need to move car)
 

Hey guys, yesterday I removed my engine so I can rebuild it, and the transmission is still supported by my jack. However, I need to roll the car a little forward to make place for another car, is there a way to support the transmission while also allowing it to move? Unfortunately I do not have the Mazda SST ;)

I've not done it with my RX7 but on other cars ive used a small ratchet strap to hook through a bellhousing bolt hole, hook the other end on a strut bar if you have one.

The trans will typically rest on the back of the subframe. For the car just sitting in the drive way that's fine, but the block of wood is a good idea if you are moving the car.

May also want to use some rope or something to keep the transmission in place.

Exactly what dale said. The trans will sit on the back lip of the subframe with no problem. There's also the factory brace that runs under the transmission that would also support it. So long as the ppf is still attached, you can do either.

Another benefit of our Trans Crossmember, it completely supports the trans with the engine out.

I used a ratchet strap through the bottom inspection hole, over the first sub frame beam and then looped it around the front sub frame beam and brought it back. I tightened it up until the trans was at desired height and onto the tow truck it went.

This is how I managed it for now!
