how to replace front brakes?
My front pads need replacing and I want to replace them myself.
This is the first time i've replaced the brakes on a car by myself. But I can't figure out how to get the old pads out. The caliper does not appear to open. Do I need to take of the entire caliper or can I just pull the pads out? |
You need to remove the thin metal clips(wires) that lock the pad into the caliper and just lift them straight up. This is VERY easy and actually takes little time.
Kind of hard to explain if you have never worked on 4 piston calipers BUT you should be fine... L8R |
There is an excellent exploded view of the system on page P-21 of your manual to assist you. Just pick up your manual sitting there next to you and turn to that page and you'll be good to go. Hopefully you are not taking the caliper bolts out that hold it together. !

I also googled up this document:
http://www.shyauto.com/downloads/fd0703.pdf I just needed to know where to start, already got I side done. Thanks! |
When you go to do the rear brakes, remember that the pistons SCREW in, they don't just push in with pressure like the front!

Because of the handbrake right?
Isn't there a special tool for that? |

...yes and the rear piston grooves need to be aligned to the pads...
You can see this in the Section P of your manual. Later |
