how to remove front bumper?

Does anyone have detailed instructions/steps in removing the oem front bumper? It would be greatly appreciated.

obvious bolts on top, 3 bolts per side under the fender liner

Thats it, they are very small nuts on the sides too. Like 8mm I think and kinda tough to get at. Be very careful when pulling the bumper off as the screws stick out an inch or two -you could easily scratch a fender.

where exactly are those very small nuts on the sides. I looked and only saw the screws. And i already got the bolts on the top.

You have to remove the fender liner to get the bolts on the side out. It's pretty obvious when you get in there.

It's pretty easy to remove, all things considered.

Stupid question but you have to remove the ENTIRE fender liner or just the side where the screws would be?

Dumb question i know but im trying to picture it so i want to know before i go and attack.

i just removed mine. there 10 mm. i already forgot where the top ones were at, but theres a bolt behind the bumper next to the headlights. i found all of them by doing a search here on the forums. good luck with the removal tho.

When I removed mine, I didn't remove the entire fender...probably just 50% removed, which includes the removal of the 4 black pastic bracket screws closer to the front (towards nose of car). There more you unscrew, the more fender comes off but I only did 4 of them. With these off, you can just push away the remaining fender liner sinc eit's bendable plastic material.

...you will need a long extension for socket once you actually get to the bumper studs. You will also need to have your headlights in the "on" position...use the red dial to manually lift it.

It's a pretty straight-forward removal of bumper. FIrst time, I can see it taking an hour or so but 2nd time, I say about 20 minutes and it's off. :)

Good luck!

don't need to remove the fender. just fold out the black plastic fender liner enough so you can reach long extended 10mm socket forward to unbolt the nuts behind the bumper.

don't forget there's 1 on each side that you can only reach from taking off the black plastic headlight cover when its raised.

So 8 bolts in total?

3 10MM bolts each side plus the 1 bolt each side that could only be reached when you take the black plastic headlight shroud off and have the headlights in the "on" position?

Just wanna make sure because i finally got my 99 bumper painted and i may be attacking this job this weekend if the weather is decent.

Thanks.

There are those 8 bolts on the side, and IIRC the 4 10mm bolts front under the front of the hood, and all the front bolts that connect the undertray to the bumper.
