How to remove the emblems?

Hi,

i have a new set of efini emblems for my 99spec rx7 and want to put them on, but without damaging either the bumpers or the flying M emblems. How should i do this?
Thanks for help

heat gun and some goo off?

OneRotor 01-03-10 02:22 PM

Goo Gone, or some gasoline. Don't use a heat gun, as this will probably mess up your paint/warp your bumpers. Better safe than sorry.

Fishing line
Use it like dental floss

Then wax on/wax off to remove the double sided stick tape

Use a hair drier to WARM the emblem ( no Heat Gun !! ). Peel it off then use Kerosene/diesel on a soft detail rag to remove the adhesive. Leaves no scratches or residue

later

Goof off is bad. Wd-40 will take the adhesive residue off. Them rubbing alcohol to clean it up. Use a clean and soft micro fiber towel.

I recently switched from Efini emblems to the Flying M badges and was happy to use my new Christmas presents to myself (one of many actually :D)

i would carefully use a heat gun or a blow dryer and try to peel them of slow after taking them off i would clean off the the area with alcohol or wax& grease remover

i didnt recognize a double sided tape under the flying m badges, but those 2 or 3 pins on the backside of the badges seem to sit really tight. if i pull slowly the bumper material comes up too. any ideas?

thanks for the help

The emblems are NOT held on by glue/adhesive alone.

Those pins are held on by those small captive retainer washers (I don't know what they are called). You have to access the backside of the bumper to remove them before removing the emblem.

found a pic of one (similar)

Thanks :icon_tup: I'll soon install my efini badges and wasn't aware of those retainer washers. Are there same washers behind the rear badge also? Removing the front badge means bumper has to come off then right?

unreal-icarus 01-05-10 02:42 PM

thanks for info, that's what i expected. i'll try to get behind the bumpers

Smokey The Talon 01-06-10 11:17 AM

Do the small Rx7 badges (or in my case Efini) on the rear of the car (slightly below and to the right when looking at the rear) have posts going into the bumper cover? Mine is looking a bit weathered and I'd just like to remove it but don't want to leave exposed holes.

unreal-icarus 01-06-10 11:52 AM

somewhere i read, the small "mazda" badge has pins, not sure about the others.

mattster03 01-06-10 01:52 PM

The front and rear Mazda emblems as well as the word "mazda" have pins with the retainer washers on the inside. The word "RX-7" is the only badge attached by adheison methods.

hi, i managed to remove my front mazda emblem without damaging anything, just had to get behind the bumper and to remove the retainer washers behind the pins. BUT, on the rear i dont have any idea. I took of the plastic covers in the trunk and also the 3rd taillight but still dont have access to the emblem from behind. i carefully tried to pull of the emblem but without any luck. Is there any other way than removing the whole rear bumper ? Maybe from the bottom?

How did you get behind the front bumper? I hope someone answers the question about the rear bumper, I have two efini badges waiting to be installed

unreal-icarus 01-17-10 02:26 AM

you have to remove the plastic box in front of the intercooler. then you are able to get behind the emblem with you hand

ALPSTA 01-17-10 04:56 AM

Cool thanks, now someone should let us know how to do the rear emblem.

habu2 01-18-10 01:17 PM

You have to remove the rear bumper cover. You can't get to it from the hatch area, there is a metal bulkhead there. Removing the bumper cover is not that difficult, especially if you have already removed most of the interior trim parts from the trunk/hatch.

good ideas in here, i used a razor blade then some buffing solution to get the glue off back in the day. heat isnt really needed, but still do it on a decently warm day.

Let me get this right, instead of removing the rear bumper cover, you gently pulled the emblem and cut the back of it with a razor blade?

That. Won't. Work. :icon_tdow

The center emblem and the "Mazda" emblem have retainer washers on studs. You can only access the retainer washers by removing the bumper cover.

Only the "RX-7" emblem is held on by adhesives, no pins or retainer washers.

I did this exact thing last month, so I know for a fact this is how it works.
