How to prevent stolen RX7?

Anybody know any good tips on how to secure your Rx7 from thieves besides the usual car alarm and the Club?:D

There is no full proof way.

The more theft deterrent stuff you have though, the higher percentage the thief will get frustrated and run. If it is really important to you, you could always shell out the $500+ a year for LoJack.

You can:
install the club
install a good alarm
get LoJack
pull some fuses
install kill switches on fuel system

and my favorite and what I have done:
install a 44mag :D

Protecting your FD is just like protecting any other car.

*Lock the doors
*Don't have flashy interior mods/stereo, etc.
*Be careful where you park

Ambitious thieves can steal any car with enough effort. Casual thieves will usually ignore a locked car with a functioning alarm and move on.

44mag? Somehow I can see the thief happily taking the 44 mad also. What's the Lojack anyway?

If you really want to prevent your car from beeing stolen... USE THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER as a KILL SWITCH...pretty simple( any good electrician can do this)

With out the cigarette lighter nobody can start the engine...even if the lighter is in the car nobody is going to assume that they have to push in the lighter in order to start the car...

Any thief now can use a flatbed...

How about a clutch pedal lock? Thats what I use on my Protege5 when parking in bad places...

I've also seen a steering wheel fast removal kit to prevent theft, looks interesting.

If someone really wants your ride... Repo mans tow truck, i watched a show on this before and its AMAZING how fast they can pull up behind you and be out with your ride. was like under 5-10 seconds

yep, just buy insurance

sell the car. then it wont get stolen from you. :)

man...I haven't locked my car in 3 years living in Japan. I even went so far as to take the locking mechanism out of the driver's door(it failed on me once and I couldn't get the door UNlocked). Guess it's nice living in a low/no-crime area.

lucky Jspecracer7.......People in America are a-holes. Luckily I haven't had anything happen to mine yet. Fuel pump relay seems to work good to stop people from driving it away.

Quick release steering wheel... Like F1 or Cart.

How will that stop them if they tow it?

Basically, if they want it, they'll get it. Just be smart where you park it.

If someone really wants to steel your car then they will.

...Sums it up nicely. Especially the stereo part. Like an auditory billboard saying "Steal me". Still, NOTHING is absolutely theft-proof, but these few precautions will stop about 99%.
Make sure you have confidence in your Insurance Company. Then relax. IMO if you worry too much, you can't enjoy the car.

Buy one of those wheel "shoes" that the cops put on your car if you don't put money in the meter for days on end.

tt2323 03-30-04 09:14 AM

Wow I never imagined some thief rolling up in a Repo truck and 10 seconds later driving away pulling the car~! I guess nothing really is safe but a wheel shoe would seem to be the only way to prevent the car maybe put one on both a front and rear wheel :)

onefast3gen 03-30-04 09:19 AM

keep it in your back yard and dont park it on the street. thats what i do. Never sees malls or anything. The most dangerous places it may see is a resteraunt parking lot but i make shure i can see it from where i sit.

RxSeven1 03-30-04 09:21 AM

they'll still drag it up onto a flatbed. i've been contemplating bringing my fd to school here in philly.

RX7Wishing 03-30-04 09:37 AM

park it in your house. and put it under your bed, they will never find it there.

turborotarypower 03-30-04 09:50 AM

just get a pitbull and let them stay in the car, and don't forget to pray that the dog doesn't rip your seats to shreds!

You've never heard of LoJack? Its a satellite tracking program that monitors your vehicles location and they communicate with the cops to recover you car. Most cars are found within the hour from when you report it stolen. If it can't be found, LoJack will give you some cash but I can't remember how much.

*edit* Skunks is right about insurance. I have had 2 cars stolen in the last 3 years and both times my insurance company has paid out generously for all my mods. Get Statefarm... it's worth it.

Skeltah 03-30-04 10:29 AM

Kind of off topic.. But the theives in my area are pretty resourceful. There has been a rash of motorcycle thefts coinciding with an increase in minivan thefts. People are actually stealing late model minivans and then using the vans to steal the motorcycles. What dicks!

Senseny 03-30-04 10:31 AM

Its simple, if a pro wants your car, your car is gone and it'll never be returned (without Lojack). If a kid or joyrider wants your car, the more devices you have the better. Just be prepared for the would be thief to damage as much as he can in the car out of spite. If a kid does get your fd out for a joyride, expect to get it back in a way that will make you wish it was never found.

My method of making sure my car never gets stolen: http://www.bradleythornington.com/~fox/TrunkMonkey.mpeg

EDIT: Dammit, link not working. It was that video of the monkey jumping out of the trunk to beat the crap outta the car theif. Funny stuff.
