No. Keep the oil changed, use good quality gas change the fuel filter every 30K or so and drive the piss out of it.

As soon as my FD reaches 185F I have NO PROBLEM running it to redline.

I've owned the car for 5yrs now and it is still on the original motor. It's been to the drag strip 4 times and to about 75 autocrosses.

these cars LOVE to be ran hard, just dont let it overheat, overboost , and change oil regularly. my car has over 170k on it, and I run the piss out of it when I drive it.

You can ream on it as long as you keep an eye on the diagnostics. Don't let it overheat, don't let your intake temps get too hot, don't boost more than what you have fuel for, keep up with scheduled maintenance. Do all those and you're good to go :)

I agree with everyone elses responces. I don't redline mine often on the street because I lose traction but I do like to feel some solid boost for a few seconds everytime I drive as long as the car is warmed up already. I've been really good about making sure my car is fully warm. The most I will accelerate when its still cold is just enough to get the car hardly moving maybe 5 inhg vacuum is the most until it's warm and I think that's crutial or at least one of the few crutial things.

I run mine hard all the time. I know owners who baby their FD's but in reality its a car. Its meant to be driven. Wait no I edit that statement. Its meant to be driven hard.

Remember kiddies, don't drive over your limit. Odds are you'll reach your limit before the car reaches its limit.

Call me Jealous, but I haven't heard of anyone with 170k miles on an FD engine.

No offense oakridgerx7, if you are getting that kind of longevity out of your motor, please share your secret w/ the rest of us...

Not flaming, just wanted to point out that I don't see where he said he had the original motor. But yea, if he did, I'm with ya on the BS flag.

Quick bursts are nothing for the FD. Track it 10 to 12 times per year...now that's a wicked flogging :) I have 110,000 miles on my R1, with 7000 miles on a new motor and mods...see my opentracking.com link in my sig for info on my mods.

Mine is driven as hard as it can be about twice a month at autox's and some track days throughout the year when I get the chance. It's also my daily driver.

After reading this it make it seem that I really don't drive mine hard enough...I have had the car for a year and four months and drive it about 2-3 time per month...Put approximately 3k miles on it in that time. Kinda pathetic :( Anyway, each and every time I get in it, I drive it like I stole it.

That's just over 2000 miles a year :(

i drive it like its not going to be there tomorrow. if the motor blows whatever. what is the sense of having this car if you cant enjoy it. race everyday all day.

I auto-X mine all the time. I just make sure it is fully warmed up before boosting and turbo time accordingly to how hard I run it. When I am parked at home or the races I pop the hood to let it cool.

take it to redline often once its warmed up. I do it @ least twice a day and occasionally track the car with no probs so far!

Those of you who take your FD's to the track or AutoX, what types of additives are you adding to your fuel? I have read about some fuel lubes, what kinds would you recommend? At what ratio? Do you mix 104 in with it? Please let me know. Thanks.

Back when I was at Fort Hood, here is my typical "merge on the highway" on my way to work.

As I approach the ramp, I check behind me. No traffic, slow down to about 5 mph. If there is a car in front of me, let them merge on so that the path is clear.

Punch first gear, 17x10 Fikse rears claw for traction, 8 grand, slam second. Chirp the tires hard, redline 2nd, still not getting full grip. 8 grand, shift third. Floor it, grab traction, the 7 is flying forward onto the highway, redline 3rd. 8 grand, shift to fourth. Stomp the gas, I enter the highway at maybe a buck twenty, and as I blow past people in the "fast" lane, I can see their eyes get wide. Slow down to around 80, cruise onto post about 10 miles later :).

Sure makes you hop out of bed in the morning with a little more energy to get ready for work :D

damn you miss your car....shit that post made me miss mine too...and i havent driven it for only a couple of days.

Haha, sounds like me when I'm going for a late night drive. What's really fun is just saying "what the hell" and go ahead and redline 4th too....:D

I don't think you NEED any kind of fuel additive. Some run higher octane like 104 in their cars sometimes w/ a mix, this is only a bit of insurane for the chance you might get a bad tank of gas etc. The only fuel additive i would do is the occasional premix.
