One thing I DO know, is that the sequential turbos will not stay on the car. I'm planning on a new motor w/single conversion. This way, god forbid anything happened to that engine, the old motor will be on standby:D
Can we give this guy an award? He's quite possibly the smartest FD newbie as of late. :p:

I would say around 20k for a cym but I own a black one so what do I know. But black is the best color for sevens.

I have to disagree. ALL colors are nice!!! and they all look nice at night!....though I don't really like when the sun light hits a montego blue rx7 thats dirty and makes it green

I was driving behind one of my buildings the other day and saw a CYM in person for the first time and I was amazed how much I love this color.

I am still going to go BB again... but if I could afford 2 like some people..... CYM or SS would be my 2nd and 3rd.

oh... btw.... the CYM was bone stock or appeard to be and parked next to a red supra with a tiny ass front mount.

I'm in AZ and work at UOP... any one on the board?

My 2 pennies--they're all nice-even white...my least favorite. But CYM just stands out! Bottom line for me is condition of the vehicle and miles.

White has my vote!

Step down off your pedestal. Just because you have a white FD and you like white doesn't mean you are right and everyone else is wrong. And what's this about everyone that likes CYM are under 25? If that's not the most ignorant comment I’ve ever heard on this forum, then I don’t know what is. Do me a favor and check out the Italian sports cars… red, yellow, black, silver... do they offer white? Rarely. The last white Italian I saw was a late '80s Ferrari and it was damn ugly. I'm not saying your car is ugly, I’m just saying that liking/disliking a color has NOTHING to do with age. It’s about appreciating a true sports car color, and if you don’t like it, then so be it. But if you posted a thread about white FD's and someone came in talking about how great CYM's looked, and wouldn't stop posting about how white ones just weren't as cool, don't you think you would get a little pissed off?

IT'S A COLOR. IF YOU DONT LIKE CYM, DON'T POST.

simple as that

I was just stating a FACT. At the time I posted, I checked the birthdates of those who had said that they liked the CYM. Among those who had birthdates listed, ALL were under 25. It's not retarded, its a FACT.

I think younger drivers like cars that stand out, more than older drivers do. How often do you see an older driver driving something brightly colored, or tricked out. The exception would be "hot rods", where almost all of the owners are "older".

Age makes a difference in taste. You like the CYM, and are under 25............ Thanks for supporting my point, even though you didn't want to :)

cabaynes 12-10-03 11:16 AM

so once i get to be an old fart like you i'll lose all my taste and personal style and start buying bland and boring colored cars just because that's what old people do? it's called personal preference, and it doesn't change with age. i'll always love red and yellow sports cars. whether or not i choose to buy one will not be based on anything but the car itself, not how old i am.

the reason you don't see older people with brightly colored cars is simply because WHEN DO YOU SEE OLD PEOPLE WITH SPORTS CARS. maybe a few have corvettes, mustangs, etc... but most older people drive more sensible cars. and i dont think i've ever seen a yellow Caddy.

My OPINION is that I don't like yellow as a color for a car. I am entitled to that opinion. If you want to get pissed off about it, that's your problem, not mine.

Yellow R1 12-10-03 11:25 AM

Hey Adam,

Your theory is pathetic. I'm 37 & own a mint CYM. I wouldn't want a bland ice-creamsicle WHITE FD if you paid me to drive it (neither do most on this board as their "1st color choice"). However, its your taste - not everyone else's.

A fact based upon an insignificant sample size of data points, making it a completely insignificant fact, but you are right, a fact just the same :).

Here is a sample of some selling prices from Clean & Fast:

http://www.cleanandfast.com/sold.html

Although the condition and mileage isn't indicated for those cars, CYM does demand about a $2000 premium. On top of that, they tend to be kept in better condition and also have lower mileage, so overall they sell for more.

My personal opinion, I'd rather have a '95 model in any color over a CYM from '93 (or a SSM from '93, my favorite color). The premium you pay for a '95 does buy you some functionality (ie all the service bulletins have been applied, and there are A LOT of them) whereas the premium for a CYM is purely based on demand. Something to think about.

turbojeff 12-10-03 01:38 PM

I LOVE CYM cars. The color is amazing. I'm 25+10.

If someone had a nice one for sale around me for a decent price I'd buy it.

Interesting, you hate white so much you wouldn't let someone pay you to drive it;)

Sparkey 12-10-03 02:28 PM

Im under 25 and love the cym think it is the best yellow ever put on a car but for me my first choice will always be black. Even though it does fade bad in this Texas sun when it washed and waxed there is not a better color on a car than black it just looks so clean especially at night. You can hide things better on black as well i.e. body kits and such. Some body kits just dont look good with certain colors but those body kits are all hidden with a black car. Just my two cents.

I'm what most folks would consider shallow. I love the fact that there are fewer R1s than Tourings. I love the fact that yellow was only offered one year. I love the fact that yellow is the hardest to find.

The best part about looking for a CYM is that, more than likely, the car will be CHERRY!! So far, the most miles I've seen one have was 50K. Most of them look like they just came off the showroom. To me, condition and rarity are more important that availibility and price. I would be one of those folks who would be willing to pay a premium for a genuine CYM R1.

turbojeff 12-10-03 02:52 PM

Many many of the CYM cars were purchased by type A personalities that drove the hell out of them and turned them into race cars.

There were a few CYM's at sevenstock this year. On the average, their conditions were not as good as the rest of the FD's. I don't have an explanation for that. Maybe Jeff's reason is why.

dubulup 12-10-03 03:24 PM

I got the chance to see a bone stock MINT CYM at PFS (close to $20k)...When Ryan started it up, I could barely tell it was on! Then he REVed the engine a little...wow, FD's can quiet. Almost made me want to put the pre-cat on, hahaha...not really. But it would be nice to have a modded 7 and a stock 7.
