How many FD3S's in the USA??

I am curioius
Anyone know how many
FD3S's were imported to the USA?

They were only imported here for 3 years,
and many are deceased.. SO wondering
how many are over here.. I realize how
rare our cars are.

Don't want to start a new thread.
SO i'll ask my other question.

Given if you upgrade your fuel pump
injectors and kept boost @ or about 12.
And everythign is running optimally..
Can you still blow your apex seals?

Thanks

Who knows, probably around 2/3's of that list...

airborne 05-16-02 12:21 PM

I heard these numbers tossed around by someone 'in the know' a while back.
As of July of 2000 there where:
8,151 1993's
3,003 1994's
459 1995's

Sounds believable.

2nd question: you don't really *need* fuel pump/injectors to run 12lbs of boost. should be plenty safe with stock stuff. but with all the mods you list it might be time to address the fuel system...surprised you ran all that w/out an aftermarket ECU...

btw- white FDs rule!

maxpesce 05-16-02 12:21 PM

Just remember when looking at the 1993 model year #s that the 93 models started with 12/91 build dates and mazda officially started taking ordera after the LA auto show in Jan 1992 (first deliveries were about April 1992) d basically displaced the 92 model year (NO 92 model in US)

Anyone that knows someone working at a DMV see if you can get them to run a query on the 3rd gens...at least then we'd be able to get figures from various states. Extrapolation might allow us to make an educated guess about the other states (but we'd need info from like CA, FL, TX, NY, and NJ to get where the bulk are, I think).

Automobile magazine said 13, 517 RX7's imported in an article about the car after it was discontinued in US

jd93rx7 05-16-02 08:36 PM

I would estimate about 3,000 FD's in good shape in the U.S.

apneablue 06-25-02 12:32 PM

Holy smokes!...so there are only 99 Silver R2s in the states? Damn, that makes me feel special :D

no I would disagree. Every FD that I have seen on the road has been in nice condition. I believe that it gives me good indication of the type of owners that the FD has (enthusiast, especially after the rep that it has). You see quite a few FD's here in southern cali, in my old job there were two of us, here at my new job there are three on my street. :)

dpasseto 06-25-02 01:27 PM

Wow...one out of 1775...How original. I don't care because mine had 20,075 original miles on it when I bought it last year. :)

How long do you guys think until these cars start to have some sort of historical value? Other than to ourselves

OneKrazyGuy 06-25-02 01:32 PM

Mines 1 of 13,879!

boostedrotor 06-25-02 06:40 PM

how do you tell from popular equipment and touring models??? i thought they were the same, but the list posted above shows different #'s for the two models.

What is the difference between base model and touring model? Weren't they both twin turbo? Is one faster than the other? I am thinking about buying a 94 touring model, how fast would it be?

Thanks,
-Charlie

maxcooper 06-26-02 02:04 AM

They all had the same 255HP engine.

My guess is that 7000 are still registered for use in the US. I heard that number as part of a rumor about one of the tuners doing some research about the market size last year.

no they were all twin turbo. base models have cloth seats while tourings have leather seats. now correct me if i'm wrong guys but there are some base models out there with a sunroof. thats what i heard. if its untrue then base models dont have sunroofs and tourings do. and tourings have a bose sound system, while bases dont. and take the word base, just plain jane.

martini 06-26-02 01:07 PM

I believe the MKIV Supra had similar production numbers from 93-98 (similar TOTAL production numbers)..

But I believe the FDs to be more rare, for various reasons..

1) They are cheaper, and more kids buy them, and crash them.
2) The engines blow, and are taken off the road temporarily, if not permanently.
3) They make great race cars in many different types of racing (not street legal anymore).
4) Fuel Pulsation Dampner makes for extra salvage titled cars..
5) The show cars...

anyone have any other comments?
