How long to warm up
 

Hey, i started up my car for the first time in 6 months today after having the motor out and going full Nonseq. Well i got the PFC in and was waiting for it to warm up to burp the coolant, but after being on for 10 mins, it was only at 24c according to the PFC (stock gauge is dissconnected right now). does this seem like a long time to be on to only get to 24c??

Check the temperature sensor...it sounds like its not working.

Depends on the ambient temperature. Is it still cold where you are? If it's warm out, you should be hotter based on my guesstimate. Take the car out and drive her gently. Where are you located?

it was around 50F. today. i know it didnt get over 89c. cause the thermostat never opened. shouldnt it normally open after like 10-15 mins of idling?

try again...Watch the temperature from the start...try to see if the numbers go up...If so then wait some more time...If the temperature doesn't change at all from the moment you start your car till approx 10 min later then I'd say something is wrong with the temperature sensor.

it def changed. when i turned the car on, the PFC said 0C. after 10 mins it was up to about 24C, when i restarted 5 mins later it was at about 55C but gradually went down for the next few mins i had the car on, i assume the 55c was from heatsoak. im getting a new ignition switch tomorrow, so ill keep it on and see how long it takes to get the brand new mazda thermostat to open.

ok sounds like it's working...try what Larz said and drive it around the block or so to warm it up faster...If you can drive it then just hold the idle at 1500 or so.

24c is only 75f, NO WAY it was only 75f after 10 minutes, test the sensor sounds like it's bad.

Could you have possibly plugged the water temp sensor plug onto the fuel temp sensor on the secondary rail?

There is obviously a problem with the sensor....0C is freezing and it was 50F out.

Did you check the sensor screen on the PFC to see if the water temp sensor voltage was in range?

body temp is 37C... I'm sure your coolant is hotter than that after 10 minutes... something is wrong.

At about 50F at idle your car should be at least close to normal operating temp. I was thinking it was absolutely frigid if it only warmed up that much in that span of time.

i didnt even think of that, no way it was 0c. ill have to troubleshoot it tomorrow. even if i had plugged the fuel temp sensor into the water temp and vice versa, there is no way the fuel was 0c.

now if the sensor turns out to be bad, is there any detrimental effect to not changing it right away. I can still monitor water temp with stock gauge and the aftermarket water temp gauge i have.

maybe his thermostat is stuck open?

Do I have to reiterate the fact that it read 0C when it was 50F out? :)

When the car is in full warm-up mode like that (what the PFC thinks), it will run rich and the timing will be really jacked up. So no, it's not really a good idea to drive around with it like that.

I started my car as well this weekend and after 10 minutes it was at 83 celcius

ok i guess once i get my new ignition switch wensday, ill have to see if i can figure out why its reading so low.
