How long to replace a clutch?

I am a very good wrench, and have just completed stripping my entire engine down to the block, and rebuilding it. Now that I have it running great, it's putting down good power, and the clutch is slipping.

So the question is, how long should it take me to replace he clutch? I have never done it before, but Like I said, i am a good wrench. How long should I plan for?

First time and you have all the right tools, I would estimate about 5 hours. If you have changed clutches on other cars before (just not the FD), you can probably knock some of that time down.

It's cake, I did mine not too long ago.

Yeah, if you've been around other cars and have done heavy work it's no big deal. An afternoon.

Never done a clutch job on any car, but not really scared of it. So I shouldn't need to allocate more than a full day to it right? Any "gotchas" I should look for? And any "While I''m in theres"? The engine is a fresh rebuild, so I assume no neeed to replace the rear main seal.

If you aren't replacing the flywheel, there really aren't any gotchas. It should be pretty straight forward. Are you replacing the pilot bearing? If so, I would order a new pilot bearing seal to go along with it.

Don't know if I am, should I? Car has 53k on it.

You'll probably be fine just re-greasing it.

You won't know about the bearing till you get in there. mine at 40k was totally trashed. needle bearings went everywhere.

thoroughly check your throwout bearing..pilot bearing.. wedge collar..rear seal

And I suggest finding that video on how to seperate the ring collar thing, it helped me out 332908% the first time I had to pull a tranny

Thats pretty easy all you need is a pry bar or a big screw driver. The only tool you may what to make sure you have is a 14mm swivel socket and if you are going to resurface the flywheel a 54mm socket is required if its stock. If you are going to replace the pilot bearing a puller is a must as well.

If I was going the job I would replace the works and resurface since I am in there. No point in pulling the trans a few months later. Enless you like doing that sort of work. Just my .02
