How Long Does The Stock Exhaust Last
 

I did a search on stock exhaust and came up with 1057 posts. Call me lazy, but I didn't read every one.

My 93 stock exhaust seems like it is getting just a tad bit louder than it was new. The car has 84,500 miles on it.

I figure that only a small fraction of exhaust replacements that are done by members are from the exhaust wearing out. But from those who have replaced it from need rather than desire, how old was the car and about how many miles?

I replaced mine at about 72k, the previous owner had an aftermarket but I dont know how many miles were on that one. Mine isnt worn out though, it has a bit of surface rust on the pipe but that is about it. You thinking you need a replacement? I have my stock one in the shed if you want it for the low cost of free and S&H of come get it.

Mine went at 52,000. The rivets in the muffler section rusted out and the thing leaked exhaust everywhere.

I guess I'm doing great then... 97k on the ODO, and not a problem. Hell, the tips are still shiny as hell with no rust.

I've already checked piping..it's good. :bigthumb:

Of course, that doesn't mean it's not getting switched out as soon as the engine is rebuilt. :D

chances are if you got your precat still on, it isn't working very well with that many k on your car. They plug up right away and blow hot exhaust gas back up in the engine

Engine is being rebuilt in January...and I'm sure as hell not driving it hard. I've got a downpipe, but I'm just gonna install it when the engine gets ported.

The car is only used currently for 15 minute jaunts back and forth to work.

You are in the same boat that I was. Darn stock exhaust looked fine and I didn't see any rust but when someone grabbed it with some force when we were working on it on a lift, one of the tips broke off. The rust was on the inside and behind the tip (which was still very shinny).

Its the high temp on the inside that causes the problems so my stock exhaust is completly gone, all the way from the engine to the tip, all after market and I would never go back. Awesome Hp, really good tone and I dropped the internal heat from the old cruddy and plugged up cat/pre-cat in the engine compartment and the passenger section drastically!!

Bonz downpipe and hi-flow cat with Apex Dual N1 exhaust. All heat wrapped to keep the heat the heck out of the engine compartment and passenger compartment.

Have pics that I need to develope, will post them when I get them back.

Cool..please do then..heh...the exterior seems pretty sturdy, even the tips, cuz I put it up on the lift gave it a once over. I guess I'll give it another tomorrow when I install the rotors.

I'm trying to decide what type of exhaust I'm getting....so pics would be great.

My 93 has 84k miles on it, and theres a nice hole growing in the center of the muffler. The rest of the pipe looks solid enough, but no matter because it's all coming out soon. I already have a Racing Beat dual tip CB, a Bonez HF Cat, and I'm waiting on a Pettit DP.

BTW- the Racing Beat muffler is so shiny, I'm not sure if I should hang it on the wall, or the car :-)

shiet, come on man :) just go with a new system. I'm sure you have a credit card to put it on :D Just make sure you have to other mods to accomodate the decrease in back pressure.

Replaced my pre-cats with a Pettit SS DP at 62K. The entire pre-cat core had broken loose and shifted back about 1/4 inch. Just in time....

The rest of the exhaust is fine, though. Gotta love these non-salted NW roads :)

i got 157000 miles on my entire stock exhaust system. Theres no more shiney tips just rusted piping that litterally falls apart when i touch it lol. Ordering m2 dual tip and dp tomarrow....

Mine did the exact same thing at around 80,000 or so when I replaced it with the M2 dual.

My exhaust came with my car when I bought it.... the guy just put it on before i took it home. No blue-ing of the tip yet. Still nice and shiny.It is a little big but it sure looks killer from the right views. 4.5" tip on the sucker. Good thing I park her in the garage or I would probably fire a cat out of there like a cannonball in the mornings! HAHA:D ....and yes a guy could cook eggs on her... dam shes hot

Anyone have pictures of a fairly suttle exaust?

I've had a 97 integra GSR turbo'd w/ an apexi N1 exaust, and a 240sx w/ a greddy I dont know what it was but it had 3.75 inch piping up to cat....

Both of them were huge, I want to stray away from the whole huge cannonball shooting exaust look, even though they give he least air restriction... Are there any exaust systems that give a suttle almost stock look but still cut back pretty well on the air restriction? Somthing fairly quiet as well, road trips are a bitch with a loud exaust system.
