How to install a Kaaz 1.5 Way LSD?
 

as title > how do you install one of these things? someone told me you need to set the backlash?

was just wondering maybe someone here has done it them self, and has some pics. or can describe how it's done.

if not. will just have to take a day off too see how they do it @ garage

Ive done several lsd installs in the past without setting backlash as long as you are not changing the ring and pinion out. Just make sure you mark all the shims and install them back on the same side they came from. When finished run a bead of assembly lube along a couple teeth on the ring gear and let the gears mesh across the grease to make sure they are contacting near the center. Make sure to monitor for any funky noises or vibrations after break in and you should be good to go.

If you're doing HPDE or track events you may want to setup the ring and pinion contact differently. This is outlined in the competition catalog. Basically it's changes how the ring and pinion mesh in order to generate less heat. It's noisier but recommend for heavy track use.

Personally while I've very mechanically inclined and turn all my own wrenches I always pay a shop to do my rear end rebuilds. I don't have the tools tools to do it and really don't do it often enough to invest in them either. And for what a new diff costs I'd rather not screw it up. It even gets more expensive if you've got a fancy R&P.

FYI, while you are installing the Kaaz, do yourself a favor and configure the clutches for a smoother turning experience! You can put the clutches in a different order to place the radial clutches adjacent to one another and run the concentric plates adjacent. This will almost eliminate the clunking noise while turning!

another question. i know the kaaz comes with a kaaz oil. But mine was purchased without one. can i use another oil. like royal purple or redline? Any suggestion?
