How high?

I'm just curious as to how high everyone else revs their fd during a little spirited driving. I very, very rarely get any higher than 5k rpms. I'm wondering if I am babying the motor or if everyone stays in this range. Let me know.

Redline that bitch and don't worry about it. Keep in mind the rotors spin at 1/3 the output shaft, so at 8K your rotors are literally loping along at 2660 rpm. Seriously, the rotary loves to be revved and it keeps carbon deposits from building up.

why did u buy a twin turbo rotary, to only take it to 5k rpm??

EZFD 02-24-07 06:15 PM

if i'm beating it up around town, i'll hit the 9k rev limiter on the pfc

mine see's its redline atleast once everytime i drive it ..10k miles so far with 105 psi compresion... i take it my motor loves it.

"a redline a day keeps carbon away"

I take it to 7-8k at least once or twice daily. I've been dding the car for several months (through winter)

hell, the fun doesn't even start until about 4k...go out and thrash that thing!

Seem like a waste to have a street ported engine and only rev it up to 5K. Most of your real power can only be had above 5000 RPM. Look up the dyno sheets posted on this forum to get an idea of how much power you're NOT realizing if you keep it below 5K.

I personally regularly rev my FD to 7.5 - 8 K in spirited driving. That is very safe for the rotary even without special balancing.

Another thread that makes me ask why does someone even have this car. I'm not saying to go out and beat the shit out of the thing but jeesh, drive it like it was meant to be. When I was daily driving my FD, it saw at least 6k every day. When driven for fun, it saw redline many times, obviously in my many hundreds of track miles, it was above 6k rpm for hours.....

I have this car because it's the nicest looking car on the road and it's fast as hell. There is no need to be a dick. I was just curious to see how high everyone else was revving.

dgeesaman 02-24-07 09:36 PM

Rev as high as you want. 5k is plenty high to put down good power, but there is nothing to fear in revving higher.

Me, I hardly rev over 5-6k unless I'm on the track or autocrossing.

Alright, thanks guys.

I get great gas mileage shifting at 3000rpms.

I get great acceleration shifting at 8100rpms.
