How the hell do you get the top left spark plug wire out.
 
What do u hneed to get the top left spark plug wire out.Do you need to take the throttle body off or what.

Do it from underneath the car.

that is how i am doing it but cant get through all the mess it looks that i am gonna have to take the throttle body out and the oil spout thingy off.

You don't need to remove the throttle body. If you can't do it from under the FD, then just remove the intake elbow. That will give you all the access you need.

Not in my case... I have removed the Intake and the Upper wire is trapped behing the oil filler tube. Any other suggestions before I remove the oil filler (if I can find the release bolt on the back.)

do you mean the oil catch tank??

you not need to remove the throtle body...

jack up your front left side... open the plastic cover... and reach the spark plug wires...

What I did was take off the elbow totally. Then I took off the 5 12mm bolts on the UIM. Then after taking 2 other lines off I was able to lift the UIM a few inches up and down to get better access to the wires where they connect to the coils. I believe the middle coil is where both leading wires connect and to the left is the first trailing coil and to the right is the second trailing coil. For the 2nd trailing coil you may find it easier to just take off the oil filter momentarily. You really want to make sure that the wires are truly on there. My car was fairly cold when I did this so there wasn't much oil in the filter to lose on the ground. I also found it a pain in the ass to get to the wire on the T1 coil since it is behind the oil filler black plastic piece. There are 2 bolts that you can take off to get that off but I didn't want to resort to that. Just take your time and relax and you can do it. First unplug the old wire from the motor so that you have some slack, then turn the wire to the right on the coil and slowly pull it out and keep turning it. You will get into a position where it will be able to come off finally. Take the new one and feed the part that goes to the motor between the coil and the oil filler and feed it down to where the motor plug is but don't hook it up yet. To put the new one in I put it in kind of crooked. I just got the metal tip to touch the left side of the interior of the coil where it is supposed to go. From there I slowly pushed and wiggled and then when it got squared up then I squashed my fingers between the plug wire and the oil filler plastic and it pushed the wire in all the way. I think the plug wires can be done way more easy from on top but the plugs are easier from under the car. I think next time I will do both from on top of the car so I don't have to take off the wheel and take the risk of being under the car. Remember to put some antisieze on the plugs so they aren't so hard to get out the next time.

Sorry for the long post I've done this recently and I know how much fun it was so I was trying to save some frustration for you guys just doing it.

The black oil thing ( filler tube ) has three bolts or two bolts and 1 nut ,it depends.My mechanic does it from the bottom , sounds fun, and on his car the coils are attached to the fender well. So he can change the wires in 7 sec.haha. The coils are out from the engine heat .

No offense, but from what I saw while the intake was disconnected it would not matter if I came in from the top, bottom, left or right. If I cannot disconnect the wire from the coil from the top, I certainly can't see getting to from the bottom. There is no route from the bottom that would provide any more clearance of the oil filler tube (catch tank?).

Can you explain in more detail?

I always had to take the oil filler neck off. I couldn't get the boot off the coil otherwise.

O sorry that end of the wire, yes easy if you remove the oil filler thing ,The third bolt -nut is the hard one . Not that hard .I did not read well to see your problem. I thought of the plug end.

Has anyone replaced these wires with slightly longers ones that can be easier routed? I know Mazda wanted to shorten them to save weight (ha ha) but I'll take a few more onces for the ease.

The longer the wire the higher the resistance. Resistance is not your friend. Put the coils on the fender well and change the wires in seconds, they can be shorter if you do a thought out job. The coils will be cooler and they will thank you every day .

just pull the uim off, its only 5 bolts, 2 or 3 eletrical connectors and like 8 vaccume hoses
