How hard is it to replace the airpump?

Well, it finally happened. My airpump seized....I was looking at it making these screeching noises when all of a sudden it froze...luckily I caught it time!! and shut the motor off...I'm waiting for an airpump to get in, and was wondering whether anyone can tell me the way to replace it....Thanks.

It's really not hard to do. Just loosen the belts, remove all hoses around it, remove bolts under and above the airpump, and that's it. Just do a good visual on it and check out where the bolts are at. It's a 1/2 job the most if you really take your time.

do you have to remove any of the belts if your just replacing the air pump? and how do you know what tension the belts should be in?

considering a new airpump probably costs a hundred billion dollars from Mazduh you should just pull the air pump relay which will prevent the airpump clutch from engaging and solve your problem. i don't think you really need an airpump. i could be wrong, but i've been running without one now for a few hundred miles at least after my airpump seized. I do still have the cat converter too, but i did disconnect the air line into the cat, and let it vent to atmosphere under the car so its sucking in fresh air from under the car instead of being fed by the air pump.

nrofles1, which one is the airpump relay? But doesn't the belts cause the airpump to spin anyways? what I saw was the airpump pulley seizing...coming to a stop, but the belts kept going causign a loud squealing noise...can't be to good on the rest of the pulleys in the car..:(
