How to flush power steering fluid?
 

I am going to buy a Blitz FMIC.
I read that you have to unplug the steel pipe and replace it with the one provided, so, I guess, you have to drain power steering fluid before.
Is it under pressure?
And, how can you refill them after? just filling in from the cap? no air-purge is needed?

It's not under pressure, at least when the engines not running. To refill just top up the reservoir, cycle to full lock in each direction a few times and top up the reservoir again if necessary, that should get all the air out.

Does it matter what fluid to use?

I just saw some generic stuff. should I get Mazda PS fluid?

to keep the pump from singing after you fill it jack up the front so the tires are off the ground and with the car off turn the wheel from lock to lock a bunch of times.

How do I fully flush the system? Is there a proper drain plug? If so where? Or do I need to disconnect the hose? If so, which one is best?

The easiest thing to do is to unhook one of the lower hoses that goes to the PS cooler. once that has emptied, turn the steering lock to lock a couple of times to pump any leftover fluid through.

When refilling, I recommend having the front end of the car up on a jack, as it took me in excess of 10-15 full lock to lock motions to re-distribute the fluid.

humm mahjik so it wouldnt be wise to use any kind of brand of powersteering fluid in the car? i told my brother to grap be some when he went to the auto parts store and not sure what he got but i was going to change it/

use transmission fluid...don't use power steering fluid.

I have used regular power steering fluid for YEARS. Zero issues.

Power steering fluid and ATF are well related. I don't really know how picky the system is when it comes to fluid.

There's really nothing that exotic or weird about the FD's power steering, it's a pretty conventional setup. Just run a quality brand of power steering fluid and you'll be fine.

How many quarts should you buy when flushing? What is the capacity of the steering system?

Quick glance I didn’t see a capacity shown in the FSM. It probably varies a bit since the system with all the lines etc won’t ever be totally dry. Buy two quarts you’ll likely only need one but it’s not expensive and it keeps fine on a shelf.

Personally I’ve never drained mine. FWIW as part of my spring maintenance routine I use a bulb syringe and a plastic coffee can I keep in the shop, and simply replace what’s in the reservoir. Takes maybe 10 minutes with no draining, bleeding etc. But over time the fluid stays clean and fresh.

I drained my PS system enough to remove and rebuild the pump, mine had a slight leak after a track day. The standard bottle of fluid (whatever was recommended by the factory service manual) was enough to refill it, you might need two bottles if you also empty the steering rack. Sorry that's vague but I suspect the fluid capacity is in the FSM.
