How do you remove the carpet??

Ok I searched and searched and this is the only thread I could find https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...emoving+carpet and it didnt really help me. I want to cut the carpet instead of removing the dash but I need some info on this.

I have everything out of the car except for the dash.

hows it going..i just did this two weeks ago. you pull all the panels and back bins seats. you have to cut the carpet under the dash because mazda installed the carpet first then the consol. make sure you cut as far in as possible so you dont see the split. it worked good for me.

Cut out the carpet give me a break... go get a tool set and start unbolting the dash... Two bolts on each side, two bolts on either side of the tranny tunnel, one bolt above the center speaker. Steering wheel, two steering column bolts, 3-4 wiring harness connections and your done.

Why cut up shit when you can do it right....

Next thing we're going to be cutting the damn UIM to get to the Rats Nest.... Get the plasma cutter out...

I agree with ejmack about removing the dash...it is EASY!

you can't just "pull" the carpet out as right under the stereo is a little "bolt" that goes through the carpet.

it also makes putting a new carpet in a PITA trying to slide that SOB in OVER the bolt without it bunching.

After numerous attempts I just pulled the dash...took minutes...

rotarynemesis 02-08-04 05:25 PM

OK I must be dumb or something cuz I still cant figure this shit out so I say fuck it. I will just take it to an upholstery shop and have them do it.

I got a full black interior now except the carpet..... Damn I cant wait.

rotary nemesis...

it is pretty easy...the whole dash comes out in one big piece...

take a pic or tell me where u are having problems and I can walk you thru it.

Bump for this thread.
I don't know if the JDM spec is any different than the US spec. I took out my Dash but the carpet is stuck under the aircon/heater core. The only way I think about it is to take the whole aircon off and then I can pull the carpet out but they seem to be real hard. Especially with the rats' nest cables.

I've got most of the carpet out. From the rear seats, front seats, passengger side and driver's side (even the firewall) but the only thing that stuck is the one stuck under that damn aircon.

Anyone can help?

there is a stud that you have to lift the carpet out over. If your not going to use your old carpet...cut it as close as you can to the bolt then pull it out.

It's good that you pulled the dsahs as it will make putting the new one in easier. Just look at your new carpet and you will see the pilot hole that the stud fits thru

kuning 03-08-06 08:56 PM

OK, thanks for the tip. Will try it again today. So yo're saying there's a bolt that sits under the aircon?
Because if I remember correctly, the aircon sits on top of the carpet. And the carpet goes through the aircon, up to the middle section of the firewall (behind the aircon).
I couldn't find any other way other than taking the whole aircon/heater console.

But yeah, I'll try to look for that bolt you mentioned or will take pics if I'm stuck.

Thanks heaps

hmmm

I might be confused...there is a bolt under the radio....the AC area is just held in place by the water condensation tube that you can unplug out of the way...otherwise it slides out from the AC/heater/blower area of the car.

Can you take a pic?

You probably out bid me on ebay for those bins and quarters!!! Damn they went for $500+

xblazinlv 03-09-06 02:40 AM

You will still end up cutting part of the carpet that goes under the heater core unless you want to remove the heater core to get to the last bolt under it. But yes, removing the dash is 100% necessary. You should be able to have it out in less than an hour if it is your first time.
